Cineroid EVF came! Initial thoughts with GH2.

If anyone is the LA area has a Cineroid, I would be interested in testing it on my AF100. A Cineroid rep had one at the EVS demo this past week, and the EVF would only work when the AF100's signal was downrezzed to standard def. This was blamed on the AF100 unit being an unfinished demo, but I will need to test it out for myself before ordering one.
Putting the HD-SDI output on 24PsF will disable the HDMI output. Maybe that's what happened?

Don't think this was the case here, as the EVF did not display the feed when set to 1080i/720p output, but did when the camera display output was switched to SD. All other things were equal, and HD-SDI was feeding the entire time in both HD and SD.

Right, but if they had 24PsF set to "on", that only works when in HD mode. So if you have the following set:
SDI sel: 1080/720
SDI out: ON
SDI 24PsF: ON

Then you will get no HDMI. The SDI will feed constantly, but HDMI will be disabled.

If you then change SDI sel to "down conv", the SDI 24PsF will be turned off, and automatically the HDMI will come on.

I'll bet you five bucks this is what the "problem" was.

I strongly recommend to everyone to leave 24PsF set to "off" unless they know exactly what they're doing. It can disable the HDMI, it disables variable frame rates, and it disables autofocus, so lots of people are going to be scratching their heads as to why all these functions quit working on their cameras, when in reality all they have to do is turn 24PsF to "off" and all that stuff comes back.

I read somewhere in the forums that when you have an external monitor pluggen in to the GH2 with HDMI, there is a big difference between the image on the monitor before you actually start shooting and then when you shoot. What then is the best way to use an external monitor to set up shots, lighting, focus, etc. Do you need to actually be recording to do this or do you use the LCD for setting up the shot and then the external monitor only while shooting? How are you using it?

It just looks more contrasty pre-record. You can keep that in mind with setting up, or press record to see the "real image". I tend to rely more on the in camera exposure meter then what any of the lcd's look like- on or off camera.. As long as your white balance doesn't make skin look ugly, and your camera's exposure meter says it's good- your golden.

Hi David.
I've got your business card so I'll shoot you an email. Hope you get your camera next week!

Hunter, I tried to get a monitor picture out of the GH2 via HDMI on my totevision 703HD monitor, but it still remains black, though I can see the saved data from the SD card via HDMI.

Did it worked right away with the cineroid or do you have to make special adjustments on the GH2 for to get a picture? I fiddled around the whole afternoon without finding a solution with my monitor and I am a little bit afraid, that it will happen with the cineroid as well.
Thanks Benn

Timur- the panel is 800x480 based on published specs.

Benn- I have had no problems with my gh2 connecting it to any hdmi monitor, make sure your camera's hdmi is set to
Auto and you should be fine. If that still doesn't work try a different hdmi cable.
