Cinemek's Hitchcock Storyboard Composer for iPhone

App looks pretty cool I may have to partake.

Is there somewhere where I can see what the exported PDF looks like?

Cinemek G35 and Hitchcock, both are A + products mate! Love em!
The Bokeh is Brilliant , Good Luck on the release party, wish we could be there!

killer app... worth $20 easily. this will come in very handy for me.

wishlist:

color coding option for characters
more character poses (sitting, etc.)
some simple props like chairs, tables, etc.
the ability to make simple marks or hand drawings by drawing on the screen
the abilty to do simple character animation to compliment the already awesome camera animation
option to export quicktimes of frames with moving camera or characters

great app!!! great price!!!

Hey all. Thanks for the feedback. I've been working on our website fixing some of the broken links :)

great job
was worth every penny
I tried it out on a decent size scene this weekend
updates of things i would like

Cool, thanks!
1 record more than 3 seconds of audio
That is actually a bit of a bug we are trying to track down. Your audio record will default to the length of your panel. So since your panel start out as 3 seconds it wants to default to that. However, if you increase the lenght, right now, you have to go out to board view move the panel, then move it back, go back into panel view and you can then incresase the audio to the duration of your panel. Again, there are several of these little bugs that we are working to iron out so all of your input helps.

2 export some sort of movie file
Yes, that is big on our radar. The next set of Xcode API's will allow us to do this much more elegantly than we could now.

3 the people/figures are fine just a change color option so you can track who's who.
Great suggestion. We will be building that into our next big update.

4 a button to delete storyboard on the load storyboard scene
That is in there. It's explained in "The Menu" section of our tutorial. http://www.cinemek.com/hitchcock/hitchcock_video_manual.php

Thanks!

All of those things are planned in the future updates for Hitchcock. However, they may not come how you think they will. It will be cool.

You can do rudimentary animation now.
1. Insert a stand-in
2. Set the duration to 3 frames
3. Duplicate that panel
4. Move the stand-in.
5. Repeat 3 & 4
If you are not worried about the pdf export having 7 or 8 frames of basically the same thing accounting for your animation. It works well. :)

It would be very difficult to justify the work needed to be done to port to say the Pre or the G1. If we had a few thousand interested customers than maybe.

Well I guess I will have to wait for the new Ipod touch, I begging/hoping for a camera function so I can use this program. I cannot and will not get AT&T service!

I don't know why people are comparing Hitchcock to $0.99 specials, as they are designed for completely different market segments.

With luck you might sell 50K+ copies of a 99 cent app, while an app like Hitchcock that is geared for a much smaller market segment might have sales of just a few thousand.
Dingo,

You misquoted me. You included the first part:
I just bought Hitchcock. At $20, it seems expensive compared to $0.99 specials.
But failed to include the last half of the paragraph:
That said, it seems like a great app even for my modest needs. IMO, it's worth the money.
I specifically said it SEEMS expensive when compared on price alone. Remember that I shelled out my $20 and installed it on my iPhone. When you look at what it does, it's dirt cheap!

IMO, it is not only a unique application, but it changes the storyboarding paradigm. It's interesting when you first see it. When you see the tutorials it gets VERY interesting. After you install it and see what it can do, you'll be gob-smacked! (To quote our British brothers and sisters.)

It is one of few applications that leverages the iPhone to its fullest. While the implementation is great, the concept is brilliant!

OK, are we completely clear on my opinion of Hitchcock?!?

Regards,

Dan.

Ok, so correct me if I am wrong, You imported your own image, now you are trying to get it to scale down so you can see it in it's entirety. Hitchcock does not allow you to scale the image smaller than the window, ie. you cannot pull multiple images in and make a collage. is that what you are referring to?
Thanks!
Jonathon,

No, not a collage. I'll try to explain better.

Let's say you take an head and shoulders image of someone in landscape mode. I.e., their head and shoulders fill the image top to bottom, but not left and right.

When you import this into Hitchcock, the image fills the windows horizontally, but part of the image is off the screen vertically. I.e., part of the image is cut off at the top and bottom.

So you have to scroll up or down to the part of the image that you want, but sometimes that cuts off part of the image that you do want.

I'd like to scale the image down so that the portions of the image that I want to display are visible on the screen. This is important EVEN if a portion of the screen is a black background. E.g., if the image is too tall for the screen and you scale it down, the left and right may have a black border showing.

Is my explanation clear? If not, I'll have to take a pic and PhotoShop it to show you the feature that I'm looking for.

Thanks and regards,

Dan.

p.s., Obviously, you could retake the image and zoom out so the target in the image was smaller. Unfortunately, this is not possible sometimes.

Bravo, Houser! Glad to see this finally coming out. :)

However, I am an Android user and fanatic (the flexibility, app integration and open design is incredible) - I would love love LOVE to see a version of Hitchcock for this.

You may be out of luck with the G1 [HTC Dream]. It would require a very costly re-build and would probably not be worth the investment unfortunately.

Actually, Android is currently outpacing iPhone growth (http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/android-growth-outpaces-iphone/). I'm not trying to start a thread war here, I'm just saying that with something like 20 Android phones by the end of 2009, and around 50 into 2010, it might be worth seriously looking into an Android port.

You could always see what kinds of bids you might get from a site like this:
http://www.rentacoder.com
One person wrote: "After a visit to RentACoder.com...I got something I needed for a fifth of the price I would otherwise have had to pay."
Also, I have a friend that develops software for cell phones and he knows a guy who did an Android port for one of his titles. I could inquire, if you'd like.

While I really dig the current Android phones, they are a little "light" on hardware specs. This is probably because they wanted to introduce the platform on something a bit modest, perhaps as test. Well, the test has been an overwhelming success and now much beefier Android phones are coming out. Have a look at the HTC Hero (http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html). But even better is the upcoming Motorola Sholes (http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/motorola-sholes-for-verizon-new-predictions-and-cpu-specs/)! The Sholes is supposed to be the flagship product launching Android v2.0 (Eclair); this might be the ideal Android branch along with the hardware for Hitchcock.

Anyway, just my thoughts. :)

do not use www.rentacoder.com. there may be some differing opinions, but unless things have changed in the last few years that place pays slave wages because there are offshore people willing to work for dirt. i've had several of experiences working with offshore groups, and the quality of work was so abysmal that in several projects the offshore consulting company was actually sued for all money they received, and everything had to be rewritten.

good, cheap, fast. pick 2. and like i said, i've had the unfortunate experience of many projects with this type of setup, where the rule was "horrible, cheap, slow". pick 3!!!

Good point.

I'm not saying definitely use rentacoder, but this was just sort of an example. I would say that if you go offshore, make sure they have a good reputation and perhaps work the contract so they only get paid by turning in properly coded software. I mean, I have no idea on how these deals typically work, this is just my opinion.

Slave labour? Where do I sign up?! I'm sure there are differing experiences with these online coding websites. Being that we are in Seattle we have access to some really top notch dev people. Our team is really, really good. So I'm not looking for new developers as much for a overwhelming demand for another platform. There is a much bigger user base of Android and Pre filmmakers than one would imagine. I would love to provide support for these platforms once the iPhone build is paid off and we are making some money to throw towards support.

Also, iPod Touches are heavily rumored to include camera's so....(fingers crossed) that will help the users who do not want to switch to a different carrier.

So about these people who work for popcorn.... :P

Dan,
Yes, that makes sense. Sorry, I'm a picture guy so it takes me a few rounds of words to catch up. An old build of Hitchcock allowed you to zoom out all the way. I didn't like the look of the black bars, but I can see how that would be useful on a tilt up as long as the resolution was maintained. My answer is basically what you ended up writing which is to take a picture of your widest frame, then draw your frames within it. The ultimate solution would be to be able to scroll the picture inside the panel view window. Which is something we are working on an elegant way to do.

Glad you like it. :)

Nice app, just got it and started working with some of my location photos on the iPhone about instantly. Pretty intuitive and the PDF export is a necessity many lesser groups might have left out. Nice work.

Any thoughts on making the export into some other format, that can be manipulated later on the desktop?
