Cinemartin goes bankrupt

It's' not trolling. JCS is sincere. He just has a way of thinking and expressing himself that irritates some people. What is curious to me is why we respond to JCS's outrageous nonsense; ( I can build a camera with every sensor, 15 stops, 1000fps that makes everyone happy and bankrupt all the camera companies). If I had any sense, I would not respond, but I find it entertaining to do so. I mean, do any of us think there is any meaningful discussion going on here? I agree with John that this is all a lot of diarrhea, but entertaining diarrhea nonetheless.

No one challenged that statement! "OK. I'll bite, how would you go about building that camera!"

1. Hello ARRI, can we license the dual voltage read out patent?
2. Hello Sony, will you build us a FF sensor with (1)?
3. Hire top engineers (who can at least pretend to be happy while a work haha) to build the board using a good SOC (like the Ambarella A9 or better, with AI hardware, perhaps this guy: https://www.ambarella.com/technology/technology-overview ).
4. If we can convince Samsung/Intel/NVidia to build/license AI hardware, even better.
5. Hire a top design firm to build a sexy frame while working with top cognitive scientists to build user interaction that makes ARRI look complicated.
6. Hire the best engineers to design battery/power/storage.
7. Lots of testing and iteration until we conquer the 1% to make it great!

"Hey man, nice fantasy-fiction write up".

Really? How do you think anyone/everyone who's ever lead a great company built great products did it? With a magic wand? Secret alien technology recovered from the pyramids? How do you think it's done?

Is it possible that it has something to do with consciousness and how one thinks?

Here's another story that illustrates these concepts so take it as supporting evidence vs. bragging. Years ago I worked for a really big company. I was sharing a lot of ideas for the company with my office mates, and they said everything was too hard, impossible, a waste of time. I replied, I'm going to contact the CEO and see what they say. Everyone laughed and said good luck, they'll never talk to you (I was a developer and low-level product manager). That company went through a bunch of CEOs, I got meetings with all of them, and as a result of those actions, received extraordinary unexpected compensation that I didn't even ask for. Multiple times I went up against lower management to make better products, even received statements like "if you did that at other companies you'd get fired" to which I replied, "I'm happy to speak with HR to transfer to another division in the company" the result of which was a raise (this happened multiple times before I finally transferred).

Striving for quality, for truth, and doing the right thing results in friction, and the lesson is to ignore the friction and focus on the goal. Never give up when you know you're right. The ego isn't good or bad. It's important to be aware of what it is and how it works.

What's more fun and entertaining- laughing and having a good time creating things or being cranky and focusing on putting others down?

The 'danger' in putting down others is that we tend to project our own flaws on them, which exposes what we see in ourselves. That's called: projection. So when you see the good in others, that's also projection!

I think Cinemartin did they best they could with the resources they had at the time, they ran a small company for many years (impressive), producing products that were good enough to create profit to buy some nice cars. Their product videos where quite humorous and entertaining, and Philip Bloom's review of the Fran 8K is the funniest video about cameras I've seen in a very long time! :)

That's really weak John. I'm disappointed. Your camera runs as fast as 1000 fps with interchangeable lens mounts, IBIS and 15 stops, fulfills every camera operator and DP's needs, fits in a cell phone package, and will be priced to bankrupt all other competitors.

To get funding, you'd need to show a cost analysis, thermal analysis, power estimates, mechanical sketches, concept drawings for the interchangeable lens mounts, details of how IBIS fits in a cell phone sized package, where the XLR, HDMI, SDI, connectors go, where the two SD slots are, how the 1000 fps can be compressed to run on SD, how long it will take with how many staff-months, how many employees, budget, quality plan, manufacturing plan, an overview of each market segment's requirements and how this camera fulfills that market segment's needs.

Haha good points Paul, all doable, right? :)

It's a philosophical idea regarding bankrupting competitors: that's not the intention, rather a point. It probably has something to do with how Japanese philosophers at camera companies think about keeping people employed on a large scale. Maybe that's the real reason we don't have The Perfect Camera. Maybe that's OK :)

As a camera operator, i love not having good ergonomics. I want camera companies to keep reinventing the wheel.

No, it isn't doable. I frown upon frivolous claims that make insinuations about Mitch and the other people at the camera companies.

How did Z-cam do it? Or ARRI? Or Sony? All comments made have been intentionally general and many times extremely dissociated for a reason. Personal experience (facts) provided to support generalized comments. This is how one forms a proof. Facts + predicates + logic = a proof.

Many in this industry aren't generally happy about the news lately, however it's going to get much more difficult when more facts + predicates + logic are publicly released. It's not a game- terrible things were done and justice is coming. It's important not to run anger/hate toward either side (all an illusion anyway, right?), as that will only hurt your mind and body. We need to stay strong and work toward being united for the common good for all.

So what can we do? We can help each other to choose to be happy anyway, focus on things in our lives that we enjoy doing, eating good food, exercising, creating film and photos and sound and writing (this forum), having fun debates online about nothing important at all :)

Debate has been about consciousness- believing something is easy or isn't (originally about insulting Cinemartin). There's been plenty of ad hominem toward one side of the debate, but never provided by the other. What insinuations are you insinuating exactly?

Hahahahahahaha!

So you’re saying your solution is to hire the people who have already done it to do it for you. You’re not making anything, you’re assembling. This reminds me of the people who say that they are “building” computers, when in fact what they are doing is assembling readymade components together in an enclosure and loading a premade operating system software.

This is like the old joke about the three step process to becoming a millionaire.

1 Decide to become a millionaire.
2 Yadda, Yadda, Yadda
3 Become a millionaire.

Can you quote JCS where he made insinuations about Mitch? All of this is beginning to look personal, and doesn’t really have a place here.

What is ad hominem and why do people respond to posts they don’t like instead of ignoring them?

How about you practice what you preach ?

What is the ego and what is its purpose?

Nothing to do with cameras surely

Why does promoting constructive thought (the fundamental root of this discussion) make one angry?

Who's angry ? Maybe you're projecting ?

You're not promoting constructive thought or debate. Your posts add nothing truly constructive to the discussion, are false or often very wrong...just one example...Arri don't have patents on dual gain sensor architecture...in fact other camera's have the same dual gain technology...yet you like to post as if you are an expert.

Many people only read these threads and don't post. Why should we just ignore your ignorant and false claims and let them stand when you present them as fact...IE...

Take away patents, ego, and a quest for dominance over others (the driving force of big corporations), and building superior cameras (or anything) is easy.

You said this. You made this claim. It's just not true. Many many reasons why it's not true have already been presented in this thread. But you play dumb and say why not ?

You divert the debate from directly backing up your own claims when someone attempts to hold you to them and post endless diverting statements about alien space tech.

Everyone knows what’s going on here :)

I try not to make assumptions on forums, so I like to have things spelt out.

Everything said here isn't new or groundbreaking, even things discovered by oneself have been known for thousands of years. Perhaps simplified or from a slightly different point of view; agreed in general nothing new.

Z cam built a camera that's as good as and in many ways better than cameras from bigger manufacturers. They sourced parts, hired good people, focused, executed and succeeded: they built an excellent camera. The proof is simple: they're selling and people like them amongst all the offerings of everyone else.

Something more recent many are aware of. Henry Ford hired the best people and didn't try to know and do everything himself. Instead he said and did the following (bolded items discussed in this thread (perhaps more were covered indirectly)- just now looked up): https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikaa...m-henry-ford-on-business-leadership-and-life/

There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: make the best quality goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.

Don’t find fault, find a remedy.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.

Employers only handle the money – it is the customer who pays the wages.

Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason so few engage in it.

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said ‘faster horses.’

You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.

If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.

Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars.

Vision without execution is just hallucination.

There is no man living who isn’t capable of doing more than he thinks he can do.

A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.

I cannot discover that anyone knows enough to say what is and what is definitely not possible.

A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.

You don’t have to hold a position in order to be a leader.

Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.

To do more for the world than the world does for you – that is success.

Please direct quote an ad hominem.

You're right, On Semiconductor owns the patent(s)*- we'd talk to them; same pattern. Which other camera sensors provide simultaneous dual voltage readout?

A (once working) broken link completely invalidates the premise of a debate- were you being serious or joking?

Remember the prediction about responses trying to reverse project what was written back on to the original author? This is a strategy used by narcissists: https://medium.com/@OwnYourReality/...on-that-can-be-used-against-them-7ebb63848998. That's what you think I'm doing?

Can you point to a post that shows anger? Comments about corporations being psychopathic is matter of fact- that's how the law is structured and how many operate. It's descriptive and probably not something most people think is a good idea (for people or companies to behave that way)- do you?

Perception of anger comes from ad hominem and language used. Apologies for any misinterpretation.

This entire discussion is silly entertainment, aliens have been brought up for a couple of reasons, one, it's entertaining, and two some really uncool plans were being made regarding alien fakery that would be good for the general public to be aware of. In a strange twist, interest in aliens since a young age led down a rabbit hole in the last few years which brought awareness about what is really going on in the world (and it has nothing to do with beings from other planets). Which is ultimately related to governments, corporations, technology, and even cameras.

Remember, the comment that building a camera is easy is what triggered this debate. Henry Ford: "Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right." Agree or disagree?

* On semiconductor patent https://patents.justia.com/patent/20110204972:
AMPLIFYING CIRCUIT
Feb 22, 2011 - ON SEMICONDUCTOR TRADING, LTD.
To efficiently obtain two outputs including one at a normal level and the other at an excessive level. An input signal input to the negative input terminal of an operational amplifier (14) having a negative feedback path is amplified to output an output signal. Signal combining units (18, 20, 22) are provided for adding in a weighted manner a negative input terminal side signal obtained by combining the input signal input to the negative input terminal of the operational amplifier (14) and a feedback signal from the negative feedback path and the output signal from the operational amplifier to output a combined signal, so that two signals, namely the output signal from the operational amplifier (14) and the combined signal, are obtained.

I have no idea what specs are doable at what price and the camera landscape is littered with failures enumerated in prior posts ... but there are, at least, two huge successes in BMD and Red. Those would not have been possible, had the Japanese cartel been releasing new models on time with the related advances in sensors, media/ storage, processing power, codecs, etc. In other words, there's always a gap between the off-the-shelf components and the on-the-shelf selection of the merchandise. The final products still require a lot of tweaking that can only come from a well funded operation but BMD and Red did manage it over the last decade or so.

PS. The gap, however, is closing since the technology is reaching limits of the human eye/brain. Within a year or two, one would be able to make a big budget feature on a $1,000 camera (or several dozens of $1,000 cameras) a la Pocket 4K.

BTW, I have no idea if anything was insinuated about me in posts on this thread. I must admit that when they get into alien technology I tend to skip past.
