From their Facebook page (copy/paste) :

"Bad news, we are about to close due to bankrupt. Our tie mother company leaves us with no other option.
End of Cinemartin probably by 1 April, the joke day, but our end as a filmmaking company.

Thank you for all your efforts and grattittude.
Soon we will make the public annoumcement"

Well... I would say no wonder, I always thought it was a bit of a joke company but I'll let you be the sole judge. Their latest monitors looked nice though.

Never wish that upon anyone, but more companies in this industry will inevitably follow suit in the next several years. Either through rebranding, repackaging or some sort of acquisition in which one disappears into the night.

I think once their entire bunch of monitors were bought and rebranded by a popular brand. Without good marketing smaller players can't survive.

Looked em up after seeing this thread. Someone posited that they were rebrands Lilliputs. A similar type of company at any rate, judging by price point.

I don't think that it ever really existed, based on a quick Google. Maybe a working prototype - maybe - but likely not much more than a concept and some designs. It seems that they weren't even at the point of finding a factory to build, despite trying to take pre-orders and constantly pushing back dates.

Interesting, though. I wonder how many projects like it out there that will similarly never make it into reality - I had never heard of this one personally until 10 minutes ago.

As did I. Wow, that website really hurts my sensibilities on so many levels! It looks like it was designed in 1999 and never updated, but the company hasn't been around that long - so they paid somebody fairly RECENTLY to make that abomination.

Ouch.

There are thousands of projects like this (in all industries) mostly on fundraising websites.

The most infamous examples of camera projects would be the AXIOM and the CRAFT camera.

Digital Bolex would be the most successful "small company" only to go out of business a few short years later. I guess how successful then?

The Z CAM E2 is turning a lot of heads (I like what this guy is doing).

Blackmagic made the biggest impact in camera history (if you consider how their early models functioned), but their steady capital and vast experience with hardware helped them.

RED doesn't count because of Oakley / 2+ billion dollars (not that they had all of that money or needed that much but just saying).

And that video is well-known...not sure if anyone knows yet if it's serious or not.

One guy on here just said he has one of their monitors. So they at least produced something.

Yes, that's me re the monitor, It is quite good, way better than Lilliput which I have two off and will be offloading on eBay as I think they are not great. A quirky company they made other odd bits of hardware as well as cameras. As I have said sadly to see them go. I only found them after someone in a group posted about them on FB.

Some of the weird stuff they made

More like still born.

For all those that think making a cinema camera is as simple as buying a sensor of the shelf and putting it into a box and then going broke or failing I give you Cinemartin....

And Axiom, AJA Cion, Aaton, Ikonoscope, Digital Bolex, Dalsa, (almost) Panavision twice over, Craft (Kraft ?) Silicon Imaging... (maybe GoPro?)

I'm sure there's more...

Interesting. They definitely flew under the radar for me. I’ve at least heard of all the other stuff/companies you guys mention above.

Never existed outside of prototype(s) and baaaaad promotional videos.

We also need to stop pretending to be experts on a firm 3800+ miles away from us.

Should know better to know one prototype is enough for a system to exist and sell in today's world.

Doesn't need to be on any shelves.
