General CINEMA Picture Style...any good?

What I see in your screengrabs, bwwd, is totally adjustable in post. I could make those images match completely with a few minutes in Color or After Effects.
Its not that simple and its not always possible if color info is not there, it wouldnt look the same and as natural, i tried to bring back contrast and contrast is spread differently on first and second pic, even with curves they wouldnt look the same.
In theory its simple but in practice its not. When you record with contrast on 0 then you see a lot more colour on human face, sometimes cheeks are reddish but with contrast on -4 you wont get it, even grass is plain green without contrast. If you add saturation then colours are still the same, theres no variation of colour on face, theres just more of the same plain dull colour.
For me first pic looks very ugly and camcorderlike.

Well, you will probably different opinions on what looks more "cinematic" and what looks like a camcorder, but that aside, those images would not be hard to match with a little bit of tweaking. They aren't that different. But that's not the point of the thread. Is this a viable picture style?

Is it viable? Sure. Should you pay for it? Mmmm, maybe not.

All picture styles are viable, hey this is art, baby! (er, sometimes)

The picture style is a baked in look that is not an accurate rendition of the world, but a stylized choice. I could make the same look in the PSE in the better part of an afternoon, and even easier in a color correcting program during post.

The Canon cameras are awesome, but they have their limits, and these limits are now well known. There is no magic solution that is going to give you more dynamic range, or more cinematic look if you don't already know how to shoot cinematically.

I will make a picture style of similar nature this weekend, and put it out for free. If you want to give me $20 for it, I will immediately donate that towards research on aplastic anemia.

First draft for the custom picture style:

I more vibrant version:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37533131/Cinema1L.pf2
(use saturation slider on the in-camera menu to dial in your desired amount of saturation. 2 is very saturated, 0 is vibrant, -1 is slightly hyped, -2 is neutral, -4 is undersaturated)

They resemble the cinema picture style, but they are free. Let me know, if you have any tweaks to recommended.

Enjoy, it's FREE!!!!!!

1. you settle with neutral and eyeball your intensions towards the final product. The pro's using DSLR's mainly use this method.

2. digital colorist ambitions you use techincolor cinestyle.

3. use something far superior to a DSLR.

4. learn your craft instead of constatly play around and confuse yourself with risk of ruining footage. learn to expose, learn to WB, etc, etc.

Pro's use what works.

The default Canon picture styles are the most versatile of any of the styles out there. (as long as you use the in-camera tweaking) The default curve is also the most reliable when dealing with all kinds of exposure and composition situations.

Custom picture styles can typically fix one issue, by giving you a few more issues.

I agree, but it sounds like you're assuming anyone who tweaks picture styles has foregone learning and practicing the basics. Anyone who wants to get the most out of their camera (and money) will tweak and tweak. That's why there are so many picture styles. I own a 7D, and most of the stuff I shoot nowadays is on the F3, EX-1, or something else, but I still enjoy trying new picture styles for my 7D because it could boost my arsenal, giving me more tools at no real cost to me.

Well, people on here are at very different levels. Read all the cinestyle threads and others, I think people waste their time. Digital coloring is POST, and it's got damn science. Don't be in over your head, learn your actual tools instead.

I shot some journalism content with my 5D II, the new anti-AA/moire sensor filter, and this profile... except I turned the sharpness down to 1 because I felt 3 was too much.

Worked out really nicely!

What about the moire sensor filter?
It is good?
Any resolution loss?
