Cinema EOS Announcement on 19th Jan - EOS R5C

LOL James. I agree and have a love/hate relationship with all my cameras. It's definitely best to stay camera agnostic even when heavily invested in system or two.

It's also funny you mention the DVX100 - someone just sent me some location pics of me with mine from nearly 20 years ago. She was lamenting the days when we traveled with a couple of bags of kit rather than a couple of hundred kilos. With the increasingly disposable nature on video these days I'm seriously considering a return to that mentality...

Haha, thanks for taking it all in stride! I think on the initial C5002 or C3003 thread I was a bit too pasisionately nonplussed. But i was viewing it more from a single cam film maker perspective. Once you and Cleremond began using them in tandem with the R5, a whole different value and function opened up, and well, that is the fun of learning. I found myself almost envious of you two owning such a combo. As well as the keen eye to recognize the potential for your respective disciplines. and the proof is really in the results of your work, always sublime.

Oh, I just ran a few seconds of miniDV through the old DVX100 yesterday, decided to see how it compared to the cellphone in low light. I gotta still give it the nod on making a very mojo camera. After watching 200hrs of AG-DVC30 footage this past month, the DVX100 was certainly the king by comparison.

If the guy truly wanted to move on after doing it for so long and only needed an incident like this to speed up the process then that's cool, but just seems like a shame to jump to such decisions after half a lifetime of work if not.

Sometimes you just need a day or two away to sign off and chill.

I use the internet as much as anyone but need my beach days where I'm just unplugged and walking down sand for a few miles breathing in the [now cold] fresh air and talking to the seagulls, no screens.

Camera announcement threads are the ultimate in tangents...

Sort of like having a chat about the best tube headphone amp.

But the whole CR thing is odd, as his site has had plenty of heated exchanges in the past without him clamping down on them. And Fro Polin does "give credit" to the rumor sites, albeit a tad backhandedly.

I tend to hang out on camera announcement threads for that reason. I’ve completely respected the focused approach in the Sony FX6 thread, and love reading what they are doing there, but have not commented much at all due to my lack of hands on experience with that camera, but that thread is possibly the most exemplary thread in some time. the best of dvxuser in so many ways.

But i genuinely love the announcement threads since there is no hands on experience yet, so tangents are sort of what these threads are about. if it were a painting it would be an abstract one. And it is a chance for talking about what camera people prefer and where they want to see things go and what they think about the work and why a camera might fit or not into such work etc. And then tube amps, or mics, or was it the FET version? where was i….

Hey, real quick, for the 4 pros pros left on the forum...are these catch lights distracting to you?

Have to shoot various dramatic ECUs - with humans - tomorrow (I'm really not the guy for this job, ha) - and cl samples vary tremendously further affecting my OCD.

P.S. I know it's a R5 C thread, but no one's talking about the camera (and I'm using its traffic for any potential thoughts). And thank you.

I'm an eye light fan. I think it's often more distracting to not have one. I don't mind an eye light from a single eye either or it's also fine if throughout a take/performance the eye has them then doesn't e.g. small head movements.

The single catchlight in the butterfly lighting pattern is a little odd. Ultimately whether it works or not would be depended on the actual face you are lighting and the context of the shoot. Some people can look great in contrasty light, others not so much.
