If you haven't been, its a great show on the New York streets and a few stages....next to NAB, probably the most important show in our business. EVS will be right across from the Canon booth so "See You There!"

CineGear is an important show and I've been attending for far more years than I care to count, but that is a very LA-centric viewpoint. After NAB, certainly IBC in Amsterdam is the most important. Attendance is something like 10 times what CineGear draws. There's a lot more to the production world than Hollywood.

And on that sourpuss note...

Come visit the Convergent Design booth next week in Stage 32 at CineGear! We'll be showing the latest in Odyssey & Apollo. :-)

Jim, thank you for the reminder! Somehow I didn't get any of the usual registration emails and would have forgotten. Love going to Cinegear but only chumps pay for admission...haha!

As far as "important"...I've never been to IBC so I can't comment but I think it has less to do with size than focus. Ten years ago there was a relatively clear-cut division between worlds where NAB was primarily a broadcast production oriented show and Cinegear was a film production oriented show. Obviously the melding of gear has blurred the lines but I feel like for those interested in cinematic style production, Cinegear cuts to the chase best...and the added bonus of rubbing shoulders with the top cinematographers and crew milling about.

They should move it to the "Gay Paris street" set. That way, they can be both Euro- and LA-centric at once.

I'm just happy CineGear is on the Paramount lot instead of at Universal. It's been a few years but the last time it was on the Universal lot we were all spread out over the dusty, dirty Old West / Mexican Village backlot and it was 116 degrees! I was working the AbelCine booth and even with a popup tent overhead it was just brutal. Panasonic had just released a new monitor and at the end of the day we had to use gloves to pick it up lest we burn off our palms.

My wife was working a show at what was then the Kodak Theater and refused to believe that anyone would actually have an outdoor trade show on the Universal backlot. "Who would ever do that?" CineGear, that's who.

An outdoor/parking lot sale, Canoga Park, 114F, late 1980's. An Emerson record player melted (to be more accurate, its top did). By about 3PM, it looked like a deflated soccer ball.

In fairness, salespeople were allowed to get back inside the air conditioned store when their customer left.

Never found the will to drag myself to NAB, but always try to hit up CineGear. It's a great show & more focused on my interests.

And if you can weasel into the after-show party at the ASC Clubhouse it's a hoot.

I remember that super-hot Cinegear...also remembering when it was at Warner while still called the SOC Crane Seminar...90's?

"Panasonic had just released a new monitor and at the end of the day we had to use gloves to pick it up"

ah..that sexy black gear not so sexy under scalding sun.

Grey metal casing and I have to say I was quite impressed that the monitor continued to work flawlessly even though you could have fried an egg on it.
