But how do you like your pastrami? Juicy or lean? Give me juicy. There is something about pastrami fat. It is so succulent. The one time I was in NYC I had to go to Katz and eat one of those glorious sandwiches.

Does Katz have tomato pickles? I miss them.

We made tomato pickles when I was a kid and I hadn't seen them for many years until I was in NY. I saw them being offered as a condiment at the counter of a restaurant. We were sitting at a table and I asked if I could have some tomato pickles. The waiter said 'You have to sit at the counter'. I love it. Only in NY.

I lived amidst the Jewish deli "ghetto" in the Boston area and frequented the NYC delis...but as sacrilegious as it may sound, my all time favorite pastrami sandwich is the #19 at Langer's in LA. It's pretty wondrous.

Yall mischugge.

Anyhow, with the DeliGear over, what's next?

8K for $4K? FS-7 MKIII? A7RIV? A7SIII? C300MKIII? C500MKII? GH-6?

Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

I don't know, but it's damn near impossible to be happy with any single camera with the constant change.

I want them all.

The A7S III will be released at the grand opening:

Have you seen Geoff Boyle's recent lens comparison video? It's available on the testing page at the CML website. Worth checking out what a lot of these lenses look like, in particular those Spirit Lab lenses.

I haven’t yet. Thank you for the recommendation!

Y'all talking about pastrami and stuff, and really: good ingredients may be the difference between a bad dish and an OK one, but it's the skill of the cook that makes the difference between an OK dish and a really great one. There, now we're talking about filmmaking again.

Walking around CineGear, I am beginning to question IF we will ever see an FS7 MKIII, C300 MKIII or other medium priced/sized digital cinema camera. Things are slowing down.

So, let's presume that S1H is $4,000 once it comes out in the late summer/fall.

Below it at the moment is a slew of "consumer" cameras from XT3, to GH5/5S, Sony 8-bit, and Canon 8-bit crops. Nikon isn't deemed a major threat in the sector.

Above, S1H, in the $4,000-$10,000 range, are C200 (soon to be 2 years old and showing its age), C300 MKII (even older), FS-7III (ancient) and the recently demoted Varicam LT. JCS shoots on 1D X MKII but it's considered more of an action camera. So, something new has to show up in that range. It must.

And, if one takes S1H as the lowest step on that ladder, it has to be 6K and full frame. None of the above has it. Some new model will. It must.

Just so NorBro can pull the trigger first. Because he must.

You are forgetting the Blackmagic URSA Min Pro camera.

Why must there be a full frame camera? What is the need to have a full frame video camera?

Y'all have not lived until you have embraced the glory that is a Katz's Deli pastrami on rye with brown mustard. Pickles on the side and your pick of Dr. Brown's Celery Soda or Black Cherry.

Burp, indeed.

By this point, it is a matter of conventional wisdom: Langer's serves the best pastrami sandwich in America. No matter how many doubting New Yorkers you drag here, no matter how many Chowhound throwdowns between Langer's and Katz's there may be, the results are always the same: The thick, peppery, smoky slices of hand-sliced meat; the thickly cut seeded corn rye; and the dab of yellow mustard as important to the whole as a sushi master's wasabi, make victory inevitable.

Because that is how competitors work. In any market, no one really knows what the customer will buy, so if someone does something, the others feel obligated to do the same to keep up and have an offering. It stops when people stop buying. So manufacturers always build one bigger than they should. They don't know they have hit the end of the line until they go past it. That's exactly where we are today.

Some respected person touts how great full frame is or some big commercial account uses it and then all your clients have to have it and then we all buy full frame cameras and lenses and all is well with the world.

The Panasonic S1H is absolutely not a competitor to any of those production cameras you mentioned.

It's for the mobile videographer.

Have you seen Geoff Boyle's recent lens comparison video? It's available on the testing page at the CML website. Worth checking out what a lot of these lenses look like, in particular those Spirit Lab lenses.

The Spirits performed about as i expected. Colors seemed more pure than the Samyangs. Less sharp and contrasty than the CP.3’s. Samller physical size than the Canon’s (good for shoulder work and focsing off the barrel to me). No real breathing. The chromatic aberation seemed to be than the others in the test, and is the only turn off i have seen in the lenses so far. But i am also aware that A: i am not always going to be shooting in a way that will show up, and B it can be somewhat controlled in post.
But again, i will have to shoot with them to know. I like the way they render detail so far.

Would love to shoot with them soon. See how they compare to Leica R or Zeiss Standards.

Shooting with a lens is the real indicator of its suitability to any individual’s work.

Samyangs/Rokinon always look good to me in a test, with a nice warm tint across the image. But having used them, i don’t ever feel drawn to use them again. I could imagine using them for certain things though. Could be the subtly in the “look”. I have a lens that seems neutrL, but then i have to fight the quirks. CP.3 has a similar thing, where they are wonderful lenses, but subtle things that give character in a lens that is trying to be neutral, and ends up distracting.

On the other spectrum, the Tokina single coated lenses are seeming to lens character with a finesse and precision.

P+S anamorphic 2x looks like a fun lens, with an extremely heavy look. It is far from perfect or neutral, but embraces a look.

I was messing around with an “s” panasonic and a leica, and wasn’t particularly swayed. Seems like it is a well made camera, and totally up to any task.

However putting an eyeball to the Varicam LT was a noticeable improvement from any of the mirroless hybrid cameras.
