Yes would be wonderful to be able to add a LUT in camera.

I've found all the Cinegammas too video and make skin horrible.

Slog2 for me all the way !

Karl,

The other thing is that the colourspace generally associated with S-Log2 - S-Gamut - is a wide gamut with primaries which make it rather different to Rec709. It might be worth customising the picture profile to use a different matrix (eg ITU709) to reduce the colour fiddling involved

Ben

Ben your right, Ive settled on Slog2 with Matrix Pro, the benefit of this also allows me to set a white balance and doesn't lock me into 3200/4300/5500, it also is less loggy looking.

That really depends on how you treat it in post. I'm linearizing S-Log and Cine1 and therefore get the same results.
You have to be aware though, that the cine/hyper gammas have a sweet spot for skin and then compress afterwards. Could be that you are exposing them too much.
S-Log on the other hand has equal spacing between the stops, so you can easily expose just before the zebras hit you, and then bring it down in post.

I always underexpose cinegammmas since the EX1 days - EX1 days i would never put skin over 60IRE.

On the FS5 when ive put Cine1,2,3,4 up against sSlog2, to my eyes Slog2 just makes skin so much more silky and complimentary.

I am a newcomer to Sony cameras, having used mostly Panasonic gear for the past 10 years. At my current job, we use a Sony FS5. I agree completely that with Cinegammas, one must never place skin tones too high, not even a hint*, or else highlights get really ugly and the face looks unnaturally jaundiced.
Using S-Log 3 in my case has been a revelation. Skin tones are much more natural and silky. And people with shiny skin have a fighting chance to look good on camera.
I overexpose S-Log 3 by 1.5 to 2 stops to reduce noise but yet skin and everything else looks beautiful.

*This means that even PROPER exposure looks poor, many times. With Cinegammas (or even REC709, which I have abandoned) a proper exposure yields ugly highlights on the face. Only slight underexposure that then gets bumped up a bit in post looks good.
