Cineform Aspect HD on Vista?

Just a quick question for David and the team at Cineform.

If I install Vista on my XP editing machine, will Aspect HD work the same? Also, if I do install Vista -- I'm going to do a clean (reformatted) install -- will there be any DRM issues trying to reinstall Aspect HD? Do I just redownload it?

thanks

I would hold off on Vista for now.

It's doubtful that you have an application that requires it, and more likely than not, you'll run into issues with what you have when you install Vista. There's a new driver model with enhanced security, so unless you rely exclusively on devices for which Microsoft includes drivers, you may not be able to use them.

Also, the new Aero interface disables the hardware video overlay, and virtually all video editing and playback tools require that.

I know I will build a new Vista-based editing system later this year, but I don't want to be on the bleeding edge of technology and break my existing system in the process.

Vista is not a recommended OS for us yet. Some customers have had success and others not. If you want try it, don't use your working system with an Aspect install, use a trail version on an different system run Vista. If you only have the one experimental system, deactive Aspect HD first.

In my experience, every windows release becomes usefull for editing and graphics/animation work about one year after launch.

(Win 64 never arrives to this status for me)
