CineCity 7D Rig

I haven't used that but from just looking on it... and also people's experience with the redrock version which this is copied from...u can tell ur gonna be having problems balancing this rig. Its goin to be front heavy giving ur arms, wrists and back a good workout. The chest thingy may help a bit though. If those rails where long enough to extend behind the person beyond the shoulder mount then one could place a counterweight there. As it stands I don't see how to attach a counter weight to that shoulder piece.

I like how the redrock eyespy rigs are setup to adjust the camera in front of you so you can actually look at the LCD on your DSLR and you can add counter balance weights just like the zacuto rig. And everything they make is modular too, so that is a really nice feature to have if you plan on using your equipment for years to come. My vote is with cinevate.

I second the comment about balancing. I don't have this rig but I have one that can be configured similarly, and I should point out to you two major things that you're going to have to deal with.

1) It is front heavy. A 7D+Lens and aluminum rails is minimally 7 pounds from what I've measured. Which is quite fine, unless you plan on shooting steady for longer than five minutes. Maybe you've got strong arms and can shoot steady for 10 or even 15 minutes, but it aint' no half-hour either way. To counteract this problem, you're going to have to come up with a counterbalance for your rig. What this means is that it won't work well "out of the box"

2) The rig needs two hands to hold steady, which again is quite fine, if you don't plan on pulling your own focus. On a shoulder rig that requires two hands, if you let go of one handle, no matter how hard you grip the other one, I'm betting that you are going to get a slight (or not so slight) roll movement in the rig. This is a pretty bad movement all around and I can't think of any actual shots where you'd want this kind of movement in... every time you reach to focus! A two handed rig is perfect if you have a focus puller or have a camera with auto-focus, which the 7D does not.

Both of these reasons are why I ultimately went with a red-rock eye-spy balance style rig. One hand to hold up the camera with a counterbalance weight on the back so you don't strain your arm. The other hand can help stabilize the camera while pulling focus at the same time.

Let me be clear. I'm not saying that the cinecity rig is bad, but it's not appropriate for a one-man-band shooter, which maybe you're not, in which case you just have to worry about balancing.

Thankyou so much for the input guys , I might just go with the mattebox kit then and use it on a tripod , I have a old glidecam v1000 with body suit and arm So that could be better .
