Ciecio7 PL mount question.

Another note: There was a second way to possibly shim it as well. Arri SRII shims are smaller in diameter and could be put farther inside the Ciecio7 up towards the back of the Micro 4/3's side. This would take more shims, but would keep them hidden from sight. Cinequipt only had one shim that size and it didn't even come close to getting the job done. I just thought I'd throw that out there for people in case people have access to those shims.

Okay, regarding the shims that actually fit -- were they the Compact Primes CP.2 shims?

Can you ask CineQuipt for the exact type that you got? There are shims for all sorts of lenses out there, and we should let folks know which ones fit the diameter of the Ciecio7 mount appropriately.

For those wanting to see a bit of the process of what you go through when shimming a mount, look at this PDF:
http://www.bfm.ee/web/data/www_files/facilities/manuals/MountChangeInstructionsCP2_EN.pdf

That's not exactly the same; that's shimming each lens to a fixed PL mount (because sometimes your mount is off, and sometimes your lens is off, and you really really have to know that your mount is accurate or else you'll end up going in circles!) What we've been discussing here is shimming the mount to get it to the exact distance that it should be. You may, thereafter, have to shim your lenses too; most lenses from a qualified and competent rental house should come pre-shimmed so as long as your mount is good, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the legwork, Brian!

I will ask Cinequipt on Monday, but I'm thinking they are shims for Zeiss Superspeeds, but don't quote me on that.

And your welcome :)

There is a 'shimless' possibility as well. I've contacted the seller in Poland to ask about the internal threads on the PL side of mount - could an internal threaded ring be used to push the m4/3 section back to attain the same result as a shim?
Inside the Cinevate Brevis they have a 'micro-collomation' ring that does just this; usually with 1/16 of a turn or less.

Incidentally, I noticed that he has changed the design that's offered on Ebay...

I had an email 'conversation' with Ryszard Jankowski of foto-akcesoria.com.pl (he makes the Ciecio7 mount) and he pointed me to these shims:
http://cameramarket.eu/steelshims.php
He says that internal dia needs to be between 51.9 and 56mm to work.

He also said - and I quote - "I am going to make a real adjustable PL adapter with support systems for 15mm rods" I offered to be a beta tester…(of course I did).

I let hom know about this thread, so maybe he'll let us know his thoughts?

Timeframe on that adjustable adapter?

I had asked him, maybe, a month ago, about whether he was gonna make an Arri Bayonet-mount adapter. And it's now already on the market. So yes, that would be very interesting, any idea when?

He didn't say.

Just had an update about the new Ciecio7 adjustable PL - M4/3 mount:

"""They are in anodizing now. Should be finished in 2 weeks max. I've changed the general idea. This will be first adapter ( I guess ) which doesn't require shims. The flange distance is smoothly adjustable with minimal step less than 0.002 mm.

Regards

Ryszard"""

Sounds Interesting...

wow. wish I waited. I have the existing Ceicio. The black version. Good build quality and the mounting bracket aligns perfectly with the af100 baseplate, no need for a riser. I'm sure the new one will be a winner. Only downside is that it took forever to get here.

Ciecio dvxuser GB? :D I don't have any PL glass, but having collected about five different lens adapters so far, PL would be the crowning jewel (until Birger comes out anyways).

Last I heard they were still out to be anodised - should be complete by the end of next week, and then maybe I can get a couple into the studio here to try out. I must say though; I'm pretty happy with his current unit.

Just got this message last night:

"Hello
I am still waiting for one essential component.I need about 2 weeks. I will let you know when everything is done.

Best

Ryszard"

So looks like we're at least a couple of weeks away from seeing anything.

Thanks for the update. By the way, you said you're pretty happy with the current unit. So do your lenses focus properly with the mount? What lenses have you tried? Did you have to do any shimming?

Danai

I have the Digioptics PL zooms (18-50 & 50-150) they both hit the focus marks pretty well and both focus at infinity. If you are focusing based on what you see on screen, rather than having a focus puller who is pulling based on marks and measure - I think the current ones are fine.
