Choppy T2i footage

Greetings,
I have been testing out my t2i with a 16gb class 4 Pny SDHC card. I know it recommends using a class 6 but ive read several posts where others have said the same exact card worked well for them, despite it being a class 4. Well my problem is, I'll record footage (the card allowed me the standard 12min of 1080p footage each time) but when i put the footage on my laptop it is very choppy. I thought it may be my computer not being able to support such large footage, so I tried converting it in mpeg streamclip (i'm not too familiar with this program) and the footage is still choppy, sometimes even worse. I don't have a mac and most tutorials show how to convert the footage using a mac using the apple proRes setting in streamclip. I'm just lost as to what the problem might be. When I play the footage on my t2i its not choppy or jumpy at all but as soon as I drag it onto my desktop and try to play it in Quicktime, its very choppy. I can't seem to find out what the problem might be and I'm not sure what settings to use in streamclip to convert my footage for use in Adobe Premier. Someone please help:crybaby:

here are the specs from my laptop. Ive put the sdhc card into another laptop and got the same results. I'm thinking it may be the card but then again im not sure, since it plays back just fine when its on the camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

download kmplayer and try to open mov files with it,should be faster than quicktime but blacks would be crushed so it wont be in its original quality.

By the way i'm recording at 1080p in 24p if that at all matters. I just recorded some footage with those settings then popped the card in my laptop and play it using quicktime.

Just tried the vlan player, I'm getting similar results. I'm about to give the other program a try. Thanks for the input, keep it coming

kmplayer is fastest one,try it.It has its own quicktime codec ,older one so quality isnt that great but it plays faster than in other players,at least for me.
But first, copy your files to hard drive dont play it off the card.

I just downloaded the kmplayer, it works better but it still isn't right. Its not as choppy but it jumps a little bit here and there, or gets stuck at a point then tries to catch up, and the audio gets out of synch too. I've played it off of my hard drive and off of the card itself and get pretty much the same results. I'm really thinking its because my card is class 4, not 6 or above but then again, i'm just lost. I'm just getting aggravating as I've been waiting for a while to be able to go out and shoot but this is very disheartening. By the way, does anyone know the best settings to convert the files to in streamclip in order for me to edit them in adobe premier? thanks i really appreciate everyones comments and help.

Try this player. It is really fluid.

Try this player. It is really fluid.

I have just discovered Splash. http://www.mirillis.com/splash.html It has a lite version free. It is really awesome. Not only plays smoothly but you can click on the timeline wherever you want (after or before) and follows playing perfectly.

I have also tried the AVCHD files from my Panasonic SD-10 (tiny camera), format .mts. That files are really lousy to play on the computer (on the camera OK) and YES. The files play very smoothly.

Please, tell me the results on your laptop.

Simon.

turn on advanced settings in kmplayer its in menu when you press right mouse button on player, when you turn on advanced menu then look for turbo speed in video advanced options or something like that,i dont have english version so im guessing, but there is super speed option and fast speed option maybe it will help you and use overlay mixer its in advanced video settings too under video generator.

I've tried playing it straight off the card and i've also tried putting the files on my laptop hard drive and playing if off of there. Both times I get the same result. With the kmplayer it plays the video more smooth but it seems like the video moves slower because the audio will end before the video.

I bet your computer is bogged down with crap running in the background (and a version of Vista that probably hasn't see a service pack either). The proc is kind of old, but I can play the files on my old Dell D620 which has essentially the same one.

I'm just wondering will these problems continue once they are in adobe premier as well? This really has me ticked off.

which version of Premiere? You may have to render your timeline in order to edit, which is a pain. I would suggest looking into getting NeoScene.

Pro CS3. I haven't done much editing since I graduated college a few years back so I'm just now jumping back into recording and editing footage.
