Choosing between 24p at 1080 or 720

Since I got the hmc, I have been shooting all of my 24p material at 720. I had read somewhere (possibly on here?..) that even though this camera does 1080, the 720 looks better for some reason and that the 720/24p is the "sweet spot" of this camera.

Now that's just what I recall from memory.. maybe people said something similar but different or whatever.. I am not too sure. But regardless... all my 24p stuff has been at 720 definition.

now after reading this thread:

I see that a lot of people are using 1080. Should I be using 1080/24p if space isn't a concern and I'm trying to get the best quality possible?

Thanks!

Well of course, I certainly will be doing out as soon as it stops raining here in Jersey but I am hoping to get the opinions of others from their experiences with the camera.

If delivering in SD, I believe 1080 will downres better than 720...something about more chroma. Could be wrong but something about more info from 1080.

I think it depends upon what you are shooting and where its intended to be used.. web, dvd, broadcast. I shoot both and usually shoot 720 when I'm doing web-stuff and some action sports and also when i want to keep the data size down. 1080 stuff at Pro-res will really crew up the space.

I shot mostly 720 from Barry's recommendation and also out of habit from the HVX200 days. I subsequently have shot some 1080 and it looks awesome. I like having that much more res for composing in post and all of that.. cheers.
