choice between DVCPRO 50 or DVCPRO HD

I have a corporate type instructional video to shoot next week. Most likely
it will be seen on DVDs in SD .

I'm wondering if it would look best if I shoot in DVCPRO 50, which has less resolution
but less compression than DVCPRO HD, or 720P 24PN which has more compression but should look pretty good downconverted to SD, plus I get more time on P2 cards with
720P 24PN than DVCPRO 50. Not inclined to shoot 1080 because just won't have enough cards for amount we have to shoot.

Having an HD option would be good too but say this is seen strictly SD. Which
would you choose? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I have done lots of corporate jobs and have decided the DVCPRO HD down converted to DVD looks great. I don't think you will regret going that way.

Sounds like your experiences have given you plenty of evidence in that direction.
More I've thought about it, that's what I'll do.Thanks!

Downconverted DVCProHD to SD DVD is what I do, although Barry says that DVCPro50 is a better way to go.

I say mox nix

You'll want to do it in software. The only way you can do it on the camera is to dub to tape, and that'll be DV. You don't want to do that.

It would seem that shooting in the format that the final product will be in makes the most sense.

I can see future proofing as an option, but if SD DVD is the only result, why ask software to resize and discard material to get from HD to SD?

You can also reframe if you shoot HD and outputting SD full screen. Either way, I don't think I would ever shoot DVCpro50 over 720p unless I needed full screen SD in 60i. Everything I shoot is widescreen 24p.

Barry's book sayeth unto us...and it is so...as concerns SD shooting. :)

HVX200 "squeeze" is the full frame, full width, highest quality image you can get, and it's natively 16:9.
"Normal" is a smaller-size extraction from the wider "squeeze" image.

Yeah, on the 200 (and 170), SD widescreen is true widescreen. They should NOT still be calling it "squeeze," but I guess they consider it legacy lingo or something.

I shoot lots of 720 for SD DVD always looks great. I always master the DVDs in 16:9 because unless they are your grandparents they are going to watch it on LCD/Plasma/LED tv at 16:9
