Chinese 2K RAW S35 Cinema Camera, 8000 dollars

Thanks for your explanation Dan.

I will contact Kinefinity with my perspective on the design, I appreciate that everyone has different ideas. Please keep us posted if you have any news or pics of final prototypes.

The day I care what a camera looks like is the day I stop caring how good the camera is at its job. It's a tool, not a work of art.

That thing is so ugly I don't care if it shot 20K.

This camera might be a contestant on Extreme Makeover! A little nip and tuck, designer clothes and hair extension should do it! Although the Arri Alexa looks something like a ghettoblaster.

I took Dan's advice and emailed Kinefinity directly with some questions and comments. I received a friendly and informative reply within 24 hours. I am pretty sure that Kinefinity would appreciate input from people interested in making a positive contribution to the development of these new cameras.

In their reply Kinefinity made the point that they are not a Japanese camera manufacturer - in other words they do not have access to the same industrial design resources that the major manufacturers have. If the final designs are practical and robust, I will be happy that Kinefinity put their budget into better image and audio quality rather than glamour.

Regarding the S8 audio inputs, I strongly believe that the convenience of building in a good preamp, 3 pin XLR connectors and 48V phantom power are well worth the extra cost and size. Any 'savings' in the price of the S8 are unlikely to cover the cost of buying an external mixer or XLR - 3.5mm adapter. Could a Lemo connector and Lemo to XLR cable provide balanced inputs at a smaller size, or is that more expensive?

Thanks for posting the picture of the S8 prototype Dan.

At this point its probably best to direct technical questions you may have about the Kinefinity.com (sm) cameras directly to their email.

If anyone has questions about using my software with Digital Cinema Cameras they can email me directly, my email is at the top of each page at my web site.

Another photo of the KineRAW-S8p "prototype"

Another photo of the KineRAW-S8p "prototype"

Here are two snapshots of the KineRAW-S8p (tm) (prototype). As I understand it they plan to do some re-design later.

I should mention that the 1280x720p HDMI viewfinder image looks better in person and has better color than what shows up in the photo.

I know the design will change, but right now I like the design over the new Cannon.

I prefer the Borg aesthetic over the Egg-timer aesthetic.

I don't care if it looks like a hamburger grill with a built in transistor radio, if it can deliver a good clean image with a quality dynamic range I'm interested.

Shooting...

Shooting...

I've been shooting some 2.5K footage for one or more demo reels over the last few weeks...
