Re: Chinatown PART IX - THE FULL SCENE!

Really enjoyed this; top stuff!

Loved the chase scene, thought the shots fitted perfectly, and the ending was way cool.

Look forward to seeing more.

Re: Chinatown PART IX - THE FULL SCENE!

Young, you don't need any endorsement from me. You've got really nice cinematographic moves, pacing in your editing and a larger than life feel to your scenes that suspends my disbelief so much, even the fake bone crunching sounds are not out of the ordinary :D

Also, your storytelling skills really shine here. I really wanted to see what was going to happen next at the end of every shot.

I felt the diffusion effect was too much but, what the hell, I wasn't distracted from the story.

Nice music too, what's your source?

You are very talented, my friend. I wish you lots of luck with this and future projects.

Re: Chinatown PART IX - THE FULL SCENE!

That was great. The cutting was really well done and it all holds together pretty well. I agree the foley work could be improved, but it's tough to do a convincing low budget fight scene and yours is better than most of the chessy stuff I see. Message me if you'd like me to crew for you sometime.

BTW, do you ever hang out at Barnes & Noble on Rockville Pike? A few weeks ago I saw a guy reading Vegas and XSI books and I thought it might've been you.

Re: Chinatown PART IX - THE FULL SCENE!

thanks hiro and alex, glad you liked it

Disjecta - its an honor to hear those words from you - i watch your shorts frequently and learn a lot to learn from your compositions. hope to see your narrative films soon as well! all the action music comes from www.paulhouseman.com the jazzy piece at the end (which I wont use in the final product) is by Yoko Kanno - a very talented composer from Japan who writes music for Anime. That particular piece is entiteld "Space Lion" from Cowboy Bebop (my favorite anime)

Barry - agreed, gotta improve the sound a lot, its funny that we live so close to each other, maybe you recognize some of the locations that I shot in for Herbert's xmas movie: white flint mall (food court), the field is next to 355 and costco - next to IBM, the car scenes were on great seneca highway and muncaster mill. anything ring a bell? haha i'll probably see you at B&N sometime soon

Thanks Lee. You have made very strong points I didn't think about. You are right on and I will follow your advise and get down to shooting. I like adventure and intrique so I am going to first put together and story board. Something short just to get the feel of the camera and how to shoot in 24P. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Chinatown PART IX - THE FULL SCENE!

Young I want to help out. I’m actually a UMD alum and I live in Takoma Park. I’m scraping to save for my DVX and in the mean time I’m available to slave and learn from someone who actually owns a DVX ;D.
