Checklist of items needed for O7Q

the 7Q is shipping from BH, but without the battery plate, because it is not in stock yet. Can anyone give me a recommend on what to buy to make this work for a week or so :-)

Convergent Design makes some very nice Ultra-thin 3G-SDI cables. The cable is very thin and lightweight, and it doesn't kink up, which is great for on-camera use. I hate bulky cables getting in my way. One can actually tie our cable in a knot without hurting it. Standard length is 36" (3'), but we can also make custom sizes. Standard part is CD-OD-SDI, list price $20.

B&H# COCDODSLPLT : Mfr# CDODSLPLATE

Can I order this battery plate direct from CD? It is on backorder I guess at BH, it's for the Sony L-series battery.

Olof's plate is very nice. I like how it mounts on the side and instead of across the back and it has an extra battery lock that keeps the battery really secure.

Olofs is nice. Mine came with a little cheap plastic though. The cover over the pins wich the battery delivers power through wont go up again for instance. Also the locking mechanism isnt the greatest.

The power connector is very difficult to remove from the O7Q. I thought i had to ship it back to US for repairs when i first could not remove it. Took a lot of nudging before it finally came loose. The next time it came out a little easier, but i have to use dexterity to remove the power plug.

Im not too impressed by the plastic feel on the monitor mounting option either. I am used to Red Rock Micro and Zacuto. There is too much cheap china plastic feeling to the knobs and techical things for my taste. Would gladly pay some more dollars for high end metal look and feel.

My westsideav battery plate came with the drilled holes mismatched - meaning I'm only able to secure the mount it with ONE screw - or find a way to drill a new hole, as the others don't allign - or send it back, which is a bummer being from Europe.
This is the second time this happens with stuff I ordered from them - first time was the fs700 extention handle, where the screws were mismatched. They were kind enough to replace it for free, but I'd perfer the stuff working straight away.

I favour the vlock system as it powers everything for ever and balances the camera perfectly. I've been throwing heavy cameras around for over twenty years so weight is not an issue for me. I've got Olof's plate for when I need to strip the camera right down for extended wackiness or fast action. I took a leaf out of Gene's book and it is also a v effective set up. The plate doesn't have any battery release and you just click it in and out. Not sure how robust this would be over extended use but it works just fine and is very neat. The guy with the mismatched holes and stuff seems to have been very unlucky.

And does anyone know the size thread of the holes on the side unit? there are 2 small and one large between.

I know the big hole is a 1/4 20. Not sure about the small one since I don't have it in front of me. My guess is that it's an 8. Best thing to do is just bring it to Home Depot and test a couple bolts on it.

The back has 4 M3x0.5 and the sides have 2 M4x0.7 tapped holes as wells the single ¼-20's.

Those are sort of industry standards. Don't you love the fact that there are multiple standards in one standard.

Actually most camera parts except ¼ and ⅜ for tripod plates are metric. M2, M3, M4, M5 are very common as are 15mm rails, and their standard offsets. I almost never see imperial number threads in camera gear. There are exceptions, but not many.

The manual has the specs on P44.
