Checklist of items needed for O7Q

Also, I'm only ordering 1 drive for now to see how much space I will need when I start shooting, to either get another 256 or a 512gb.

What do you recommend for dumping files to computer? Any certain readers?

You need 2 ssd for 240fps slow motion .

what about for 4k @ full res 30fps? I guess I'll have to add another drive to the list of things to get from the start.

Thanks!

you don't need a second SSD for 4K 30fps in general. One is fast enough but a 256GB disk holds only about 15mins uncompressed 4K RAW

If you worked already with a monitor on an israely arm than it will be fine. For me it works better to have it mounted in fixed right angle. A kind of hood will be helpfull for sure too. Plus some batteries.

The Seagate goflex thunderbolt adaptor Stae121 for thinderbolt. A cheap sata to usb 3.0 adaptor cable of some sort seems to work fine for USB 3.0 - or you could try something like and icy dock

Personally, I would get 2 x 256 gig SSD cards instead of 1 512 gig. They are basically the same price and with 2 you have the option of shooting slow motion 240fps.

Also, on bigger shoots where you have Data Wranglers who seem like they're always asking for your cards, you can give him a smaller cards to download. A full 512 gig is 2x as painful to download as the 256gig.

The Seagate Thunderbolt GoFlex adapter is super fast when paired with a Thunderbolt drive. 256 gigs in 15 minutes!

That depends upon the drive. I've got a Gtech 1TB GDrive that's Thunderbolt and it takes 30mins to download a card - but then it is only a 7200 rpm spinning disc. Going straight to my laptop SSD it takes 10 mins.

EDIT: I am open to hearing anyone else's recommendations for on-location back-up drives. I know I should probably be looking into SSDs, but the only one I can find that is 1TB is the Lacie Little Big Disk, which I don't think can be Bus powered. Otherwise I'm looking at £400 (well, £320+Vat) for just 500Gb and you know what, for 1/3 the price, I can sweat an extra 15 mins...

I was actually thinking about getting this as my monitor holder. Anyone used it before or heard anything about it?

I bought one for the alphatron viewfinder. I holds the odyssey well but the rod is a little to short and you have to put the odyssey quite to the end of the rod. Also if you want to use it for shoulder mount it is still close to the body, it should more move to the lens. Olof's system would work better.

I would always get 2 BNC cables just in case one craps out on the job. It happened to me once, but never again. ;)

A strong magic arm is my go-to for mounting. Very versatile. When I'm shoulder mounted I hang the 7Q off the back of the fs700 for the director. I tried mounting up the front as a focus pulling monitor, but the slight lag scared me for sudden actor movements and instant focus pulls. So I had to resort to getting the SmallHD dp7 up in front of my face which is instant live view via HDMI.

Actually, considering the throughput speed of SDI, why does the video lag at all on the 7Q compared to the HDMI port on the fs700?

Dapoopta, I have no idea if you are PC or Mac as everyone so far has just suggested thunderbolt options. I'm PC so stuck with USB3 for now(unless I buy one of 2 motherboards in the entire world that thought to include thunderbolt, haha)

But for desktop ingesting, I use a Nexstar USB 3 hard drive dock.
On location I always have this in my camera bag -> http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/893302-REG/Kingwin_adp_10_USB_3_0_to_SATA.html

Cheap as chips and USB3 too.

-I'd also suggest a backup SDI cable. You never know when 1 will fail or get broken on set.
-I can vouch for Westside AV's sunhood. Forget about midday exterior shooting without one. The screen is way too glossy. (or save $150 and pull a towel over your head)
-I use CD's Sony L battery plate. Works beautifully and lasts all day on one NP-F970
-agree on getting 2 SSD's. Slow mo is half the fun!

Good to know and glad I asked. Thanks!

We are currenty backordered on the Sony L-series battery plate. Our supplier of the Battery mount itself is on deep backorder himself. We should get in a lot in the month of March.

We have a dozen complete L plates in stock now and we ship world wide.

We have more aluminum plates (that we make here on our CNC machine) coming back from our anodizer Thursday as well, we are working this weekend to make them. We have lots of the actual battery adapters in stock. We get them locally from Dolgin Engineering, he has them in stock.

Check the website or email us for current stock.

I bought one from Olof with his hood too. I am quite happy with these items. At the first sight FedEx overseas shipping Rates are not a bargain but it arrived in two!! days from USA to my studio in Germany. I could use it for two shootings since then so in the end the money was well spent.
