checking P2 clips without opening fcp

I want to be able to check the clips on my P2 card without having to open final cut pro. I offload the P2 card on to an external hd using my powerbook G4 to read the card.
My powerbook G4 currently has fcp 4.5 and I don't see a log and transfer option in that version. I don't want to import the footage just check it on set.
I thought there was a way to just check without going into fcp?
I could upgrade to the powerbook fcp to 6.6, but I'm not using it to edit just using it becuase it has the PCMI card slot.

Thanks,
Beth

Will FCP 4.5 recognize the P2 footage? Is there a P2 log menu in fcp 4.5? I'm not seeing it.
I dont want to import just spot check the clips for a pre shoot.
Thanks!

They are third party software. A quick Google search will take you to them. I don't recall how far back in FCP's history that P2 was recognized. Prior to Log and Transfer it was File>Import>P2.

FCP 4.5 doesn't include log and transfer.

IF it supports it, and I don't believe it does, the menu command is import p2 volume under the File Menu

4.5 does not support P2's MXF structure. If you convert the MXF files into Quicktime MOVs, 4.5 could work with it as 4.5 does support DVCPRO-HD and DVCPRO-50.

4.5 supports DVCPRO-HD via firewire importing, but it doesn't know about tapeless workflows. P2 support was added in 5.0, and P2 HD support was added in 5.0.4.

So if you want to use 4.5, you'll have to either capture the footage via firewire, or use a program like Raylight.
