Is it just me or...

Is it just me or...

... is this footage right out of the box better than most regarding noise. I can't see any noise like other postings. So the question is, are the cameras getting better?

Also notice that in the video at: http://www.richard-darge.com/HD/differences.mov the side by side of the character in red with a circle stomach, there is a real noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p.
 
richard is really doing us a big service with is footage and this differences footage is exactly what I've been looking for. There does look like there is a very noticable difference between the 720 and 1080 footage. The DVCPRO 50 also comes out looking really nice. I think I'll only shoot DV if I'm going to the web and/or need crazy amounts of run time.

Some really great footage already going around...

It's really difficult to judge things like resolution and noise from shrunken-down, compressed-for-the-web footage. I agree that it's great to see some new clips outside and in different locations, but if you want to evaluate it, you need to see the raw files.

Most of the stuff I've been doing looks very good when scaled down, even when burned to DVD. The same thing can be said about the DVX though. The HVX is an HD camera and you need to view it on an HDTV or at full resolution on a computer monitor to see the difference. Blu Ray ships in less than two months and the number of users enamoured with creating HD content is only going to go up from here. So while these clips are fun, they shouldn't be used as references to base your opinions about this camera in the areas of noise or sharpness.

The first example in the video, shows visible banding in 720, but 1080 looks a lot better.

I'll confess you that I hope to buy soon a camera (I'm still undecided) because I'll become crazy to read all this tech things without have a camera! It's almost a year that I'm reading this forum! And dvinfo! My head will soon explode!
Maybe Barry Green will do some new *variable frame rates test* when my head explodes! :) So I'll provide a sort of service for the community :)

Danillo, congratulations! I can see you have a very big Manga influence. And pretty gorgeous girls you draw! Your main character on your 1st prize work looks like a homage to Cowboy Beebop's main character (who was a homage to Lupin the III anyway :) )

Am I wrong or are you into Evangelion? The traces of some of the girl characters look very similar to Gainax style...

And very nice coloring. Concerning your work, I can say that you are definetly finding your style. The first prize work as a definitive personal touch to it (like the Third prize one) that is differnt from the "Hentai"- ok, ok, "erotic" - work you did :)

I know very well Cowboy Bebop, I really like Faye character, when I did that drawing was more a involuntary homage, when I looked I figured it was very similar! Great, also you know that Faye is taken from Lupin's Fujiko! Compliments! :)
Watanabe director is A GREAT director, hope someone of this community have seen Cowboy Bebop! It's a master of directing...

You've seen right! Evangelion is my preferred anime! I watched it 20 times I believe! Hideaki Anno it's my fav director! Also Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Rin-Taro.
They're all genius!
I really like Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, when I make a drawing his influences it's a lot, I like how Sadamoto balances the anatomies (they're a bit stretch out) , like a technical version of Miyazaki drawing's style, have you noticed? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
I really like Gainax works, I love "Top o Nearae Gunbuster" (last year I've meet Haruiko Mikimoto in person! He was the character design of Gunbuster and
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, and "Ecole du Ciel".
I've meet him at...NAPLES (Italy) where I live.
Also like "Fushigi no Umi no Nadia", "Otaku no video", "Wings of Honneamise", they're all great.

I really like hentai doujin! I was making an erotic doujin about Evangelion last year! Hentai artists are gods of drawing!
One of my fav artist is a guy from a circle called Gambler Club:

I was learning to draw to do storyboards for my future movies, but I like to have the possibility to make also a comic! Also play classical guitar, Bach it's my preffered! I play all the baroque composers and others! :)

I very much like Gainax music selection. Evangelion has a great soundtrack, as well as the insane FLCL (I love the Pillows!)

You are a lucky guy to be able to contact with the makers of such great anime's. These guys are great storytellers and artists. It's a medium that is often neglected, but many great stories come from it!

Now if we could get that PAL HVX for a test :)

They're also important, because you can't draw all from memory, you must see some examples. So also comic drawers did some cheats!

Not so lucky, I've meet him at Comicon, where I've did the contest.
But he was there to show "Ecole du ciel" because a company in Italy has started to publish it. In this comic festival, you meet some famous people, sunday (3 days ago) there was David Lloyd to promoves "V for vengeance" /the movie from his comic) at the comic convention.
I'd preffered to meet Natalie Portmann (sorry if you are hearing us Lloyd, but we want gals :))...but if I meet her sure I will be arrested from police...
I'd like to play Leon character to teach Matilda how manage guns, I'm bit disapponted how Jean Reno teached her...ya know...LOL

To be serious, some years ago Natalie Portmann came here, in Caserta with George Lucas (some HD shot for Star Wars), I believe that if I was crazy I could to try to meet her, because Caserta is near to Naples...
But sure her bodyguards had me shoot in head only to see her!! LOL

FLCL has a very bad ending...it was very sad, because it's great anime...

I hope Hvx200 pal could be better, hope Panasonic have made some tricks after all this months, making a better camera, with less noise.

V for Vengeance seems like an interesting comic to movie adaptation... you seen it? Any good? (this is getting a bit of topic :) )

Anyway, Danilo, about the noise... If you are shooting 720p, there's no big problem. Trust me. I saw a screening of some footage of a girl sitting in a room full of candlelights, and it looked simply stunning. The Hong-Kong Harbour at Night (neons, building lights, etc.) was simply incredible. It had The best film like look I've seen from all the new HD cameras.

I'm a very big fan of Wong Kar Wai's work and his DP Mr Doyle's work. It really captures the feel of Hong-Kong. What I saw from the night pictures of the HVX was thie same type of tone and film look I see on HK shot movies. I'm pretty sure this camera will make me achieve great pictures. But stick with 720p. You DO get 4:2:2 at 720p (or very very close). It is a LOT- and I mean a LOT better than 4:2:0. In 1080p, the picture of the HVX is not as good, tough. The same scene i talked to you about with the girl and the candlelights looked a lot noisier and with less color detail. This is all measured by my eyes, tough. No resolution charts or anything.

Very upset about being 8 days from the official European launch date (17 March) and not having any confirmed specs and improvements!
