FS7: Cheapest B-cam for FS7? A6000 still winner?

Guys, with fs5, x70 etc. you are drifting away. I will get A7RII eventually but for know I want to buy something for $1K or less (1k is upper limit).

If you are looking outside the Sony options, and don't have Canon EF lenses so you have the freedom to choose (i.e. have a Nikon F collection, or vintage lenses), then I strongly suggest a Samsung NX1 (concerns about its future doesn't matter if you're not getting NX lenses, but just adapting your own).

To me it clearly looks like the technological leader in the sub US$1k category.

(note also these are reviewing it with very old firmware, Samsung has done a great job with updating it, almost like a whole new camera now!)

NX1 uses h.265 which doesn't have large NLE support currently. Transcoding is an option but whether you have time to do so can pose issues.

It's great but GH4 might be better, still I'm partial to A7rii.

I heard H265 is now going to be supported by DaVinci Resolve. This is great news since it's great to bring log footage into resolve and color prior to making exports for editorial to have "normalized" footage.

Not that this should push you into buying a NX1, but certainly removes a barrier. I personally have never shot with the nx1, but I have seen some great footage from it. It and the BMPCC are the mirrorless cameras that I'm most exited about playing with soon.

…gotta say the more and more I see and read about the NX1, the more and more I feel it's a serious contender.

Far cheaper than A7Xii and no it's probably not a "low light killer" but if you use lights or feel 3200/6400 ISO is enough, the NX1 looks to be a champ. Thanks for pointing that one out IronFilm.

Love how the article puts the NX1 up against a $12,000 camera and you know what… and so it should!

I was reading that too, also in dpreview.com where the NX1 was rated highly.
You have to be aware that Samsung has quit the photo business?
It's still quite some money for a dead end and a limited choice of lenses.
I bet you will get similar from the soon to be on the market a6100 / a7000

Sure dead end but for $1099 at BHphotovideo it's a steal compared to A7Xii, maybe even compared to GH4.

Interesting about a6100 / a7000 but surely there will be some crux with it if it does end up doing 4K. Hard to say right now I guess unless official news has been released.

A6100/7000/99/9 are models that have been bandied about forever ... or about two years ... which is forever in the photo-video industry. One day, they might come out ... as A6200/7100/999/09 ... or not.

As to the HEVC, the agreement on streaming royalties between the various patent holders and the commercial interests has only been finalized within the last two weeks, which is why it was prudent for the NLE's to hold off from the release. I assume that everything has been ready for quite some time, pending the legal wrangling. Let's see what the CES brings out.

As to the inexpensive 4K cams - G7, GX8, RX10II and NX1 should be the top candidates.

I have to put RX10II in different category though if lens is fixed. This is why I really like NX1, & A7Xii. But yes for inexpensive 4K the RX10II certainly brings a lot to the table.

They have mostly ceased their activities in Europe - out of Germany, Scandinavia, the UK. I posted this week's Korea Times article on the Nikon D5 thread on the Industry News. Samsung's official response has to be read between the lines ... and that "between the lines" gap is wide enough to drive a truck through. A really, really, really big truck. My inference is that they'll continue their R&D for their own smartphone lineup and anything someone might want to co-develop with them.

OK, I found the piece. Make your own judgement.

Very aware of the rumours around Samsung quitting (though I wouldn't rate at 100% likely it is quitting! Just more likely than not, probably.... maybe. Perhaps).
As for the cost, a NX1 body with the excellent Samsung 16-50mm f/2-2.8 lens still costs far less than an A7s mk 2 / A7r mk2 body by itself!!
And if you pass on having AF, and just adapt lens to only the NX1 by itself which you buy, then you're not risking anything at all in the future of the system (aside from less than twenty bucks on an adapter to NX mount)

Waiting for their next top end APS-C photo camera from Sony is reminding me of the wait for the Nikon D400..... :-(
Hopefully we'll see both of them soon enough! But don't hold your breath.

I'd place a little small bet on Nikon using Samsung sensors in one of their future cameras, as they've been using Sony sensors for a while now but that agreement is coming to an end and they might be looking around at other options.

As for the NX system itself.... hmmm.... a Samsung NX50 is starting to be rather overdue with its arrival (as the NX30 has been around for ages, while the NX300 has already been replaced with the NX500).

Maybe if a NX50 doesn't show up in the first half of 2016 then we can start writing up the obituaries for the NX system? Of course if a NX50 does get announced, then we can clearly see Samsung does still see a future for their NX system!

There is a small chance a NX5000 might be the next camera announced instead of a NX50, but I doubt it as the NX30 is an older camera than the NX3000. (slim slim chance a NX Mini 2 might be next, but if the NX Mini line up dies then I won't mind....)

As the NX500 has 4K, I'm sure whatever is the next camera from Samsung, it will have 4K as well.
