cheap way to waterproof body and lenses??

I'm going to Panama in a few months to surf and film a bit. It's the tropics so it rains an unbelievable amount there (that's why it's so green) and it's very humid and hot. I'm a bit concerned about my 7D and lenses. I have a lo-pro backpack (not waterproof, only resistant).

I was thinking of keeping my lenses and body in a zip-lock bag to keep the water off while traveling, and maybe put in one of those Silica Gel packets in the zip lock for the moisture.

Does this sound like a good, cheap waterproofing idea? Any suggestions?

I recommend using large tupawear containers.

The best are the kinds with a snap lock top, and even better, the ones with a snap lock top and little snap lock door so you can get in a press buttons without removing the top.

I found some at smart and final which fit DSLRS perfectly, i think they are meant to store cereal.

just cut out a hole for the lens, tape some moister reducers in there, and drill a 1/4 hole in bottom and use your tripod mount plate to stick the camera in place. now you can film in the rain :) then you can duct tape over the lens opening and store the camera when not inuse.

This simple setup works well as a protective shell for the camera, works especially well when the whole thing is mounted on a cross bar with handles like you would have on underwater cameras.
