Cheap importing device - help?

Sorry title may sound weird.

Anyway, I have an XH-A1 and i know its not good for the tape heads to import onto your computer.

Question is, Is there a cheaper way then buying an HV20 ?

I would like to own an HV20 as well anyways, but I am very tight for cash right now and don't want to dish out another $500..

Do I need an HD miniDV cam to import HD quality onto my computer? Or would it be possible to buy just an SD miniDV cam and import with my original HD quality?

Any help would be great.

Thank you

SD camera will not read HDV footage. Canon F mode can only be read by Canon HDV camera. The HV10 can also be used to capture Canon HDV footage and it's considerably cheaper than the HV20 if you can find it used.

I just saw someone selling a couple of used HV20's for $375 each in the marketplace. I'd jump on that if I didn't already own 2 myself. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a nice used one for under $500.
