Cheap FD adapter 'loose fit' fix

Hey guys I just got a 50mm f1.4 with the chrome locking ring. Well when I attached it to my cheap ebay adapter I was a little dissappointed that the adapter I bought had the loose fit on the FD side that some people were complaining of.

Well I fixed it... took 5 mins...

I took some teflon tape... wrapped the fd side... and then applied the lens. BOOYA... no more loose fit. Nice an snug... no rattle.

None of my FD lenses are the old type. But I do not see why it should be any different. Try another FD lens. Maybe your lens is broken.

I have the new FD 50mm and a 70-210mm and they both have a lock button which you have to press in order to dismount the lens from the adapter. The first time i tried the adapter I failed to rotate the lens barrel all the way, which resulted in an improperly mounted lens and no image - you have to turn it all the way and hear a distinct clicking sound when the locking mechanism engages.

Hope that helps

what do you mean the old type? the FD mount is the mounting design... then there is the lock type... there is the button style, then the locking ring style. This lens works fine on a Canon AE-1 SLR, so I know there is nothing wrong with my lens...

what do you mean NEW FD lens? FD mount lenses were for the OLD manual canon 35mm SLR cams. Also I have the locking ring type FD, not the button lock lens. Hence the reason I stated that I have the chrome ring style lens. I don't think anyone has any problems with the button lock style with cheap adapters, just the chrome ring locks have issues.

But I just posted this to let people know there was a fix.

There are two types of Canon FD mount lenses. The old style is the classic breach lock with the silver ring that you need to rotate when you mount the lens. The New FD mount or FDn for short is what Canon called the bayonet mount. It is still really a breach lock, but instead of placing the lens and twisting the silver locking ring, you place the lens on the camera and twist the whole lens until the button on the lens clicks. To dismount the lens you push the button and twist it off. Some Canon lenses were made in only the old style FD, some were only made in the FDn, and some lenses were made in both mounts. People have different preferences on which they like best. The FDn is faster to mount, but some people find that there is greater mechanical precision in the old FD. It can adjust to a bit of wear on the camera and lens mount to always make a solid mounting without any free play or wobble.
