Cheap <50mm AF prime for t2i ?

Hi, I need suggestions on a cheap fast prime for my t2i. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens (Nifty Fifty) looks great, but will be way too cropped for my needs, so sized something like between 24 to 30mm is what I'm going for.

Thing is, I've got the t2i with 18-55mm kit lens and use it mostly for video. I'm very unsatisfied with that lens (which was recommended by several users in here when I bought the camera in may - big big mistake - should have gotten just the body and a fast prime from the get go!).

Now I don't particularly like the look of super wide angle lenses that distort "reality" - I like the more flattering look of 50mm+, unnoticeable barrel distortion, and a better relation between foreground and background - but I don't know how far I need to go up in mm, in order to get that "look"?

Also, with the crop factor as opposed to say a 5D Mark II - things quickly become way too "zoomed in"/cropped.

So in closing - I would really like some recommendations on something that can auto focus, preferably a prime (or it needs to have constant f-stop) f 1.8, 1.6 or 1.4, smooth focus (I'll probably put a follow focus ring on it as well) mainly for video use, needs to be sharper and much faster than the kit lens.

Thanks so much :)
