Chattanooga in 7D

After trying hand held shots in my Ford GT interview (with pretty bad results), I got some footage with the 7D as "locked down" as possible on a tripod around Chattanooga.

Most everything was shot with 70-200 2.8 with 2x extender except the aquarium shots which were hand held with a 24-105 with IS.

Great footage. I particularly liked the Santa's boat/sleigh at night. The camera really holds
up well in low light. No noise in the blacks that i could see.

Two smalls observations, watch the speed of your pan (00:10). It's a little too fast and
the image is strobbing (flickering). The shot at 00:18 is better, but there is still a little
strobbing. The rule of thumb with film (and shooting 24p video) is that any object in
your frame should take 7 seconds to move from one side to the other.

Second are your titles. You've gone past the "title safe" regions. Though this isn't
critical when posting to the web (since the words don't get cut off as they would
on a normal TV) it is still esthetically more pleasing to the eye if you keep to title safe.
This would mean that "Chattanooga" would begin where the "H" is and end at the "G"
The "7D" should be moved up a bit, to match the distance from the top of "Chattanooga"

Same thing goes for your end titles.

Of course, you may have done all this on purpose. If so, please feel free to ignore my
comments. I suffer from editor's eye and these things jump right out at me :)

Thanks Peter. That's good information about the titles- I didn't consider SD broadcast, but I guess I should. Believe it or not, I had the titles even larger at one point:)

Everything was shot in 30p with the pans in mind. I think most of the stuttering is from Vimeo, but I could be wrong. I think/hope if you downloaded the video, most of the stutter would be gone. I appreciate the feedback on the titles and thanks for the compliment.
 
No problem. Glad I could help.

When you shoot 30p (which I do) the stuttering is reduced, but not completely. You still
have to follow the 7 second rule, though it can be reduced to say 4 or 5.

Shooting in 60i allows you to "whip" pan across the screen with no stuttering.

I'm on the fence about picking up a 7D myself, but you're footage is very convincing.
