CH1/Ch2 staggering?

On the XHA!s Is it possible to split channel one into two tracks AND stagger the signal so that if one channel peaks the other will not? If so what are the camera settings?

Is this what you're trying to do, avoid say a voice going into distortion?

Use 2 mics probably shotguns .. each feeding its own track .. and set the volume of one about 10db lower than the other given they are both recording the same talent.

This is a known technique so if the talent over peaks on mic 1 then mic 2 will not .. or if you're using one mono mic into a mixer .. route it to 2 channels and turn one down by 10db .. feeding 2 tracks. Same thing.

Cheers.

In other words, no. You can't control the volume for each channel independently when it's coming out of one mic and duplicated over to channel 2. Apparently the channel 1 gain comes before the channel 1 -> channel 1 / channel 2 switch.

It seems like such a common technique. To bad Cannon missed that one in the XHA1 design.

And Yes. I've been staggering with a second mic but it's a hassle. I just thought there was a simpler way.
