AC90: CGA-D54 Compatible Batteries---Your experience with...?? Higher Capacity...??

I've used Cameron Sino batteries with my Panasonic TM300 for a few years, with good results. So I recently purchased their CGA-D54 compatible battery (CS-PVD54S) to use with my AC90. The battery is a touch shorter and deeper than the Panasonic, and requires slighly more pressure to seat in the battery compartment, but it is still a good fit, locking securely, and removing easily. This battery has the standard 5400 mAh rating.

I see that there are a number of other offerings (with retail prices as of the time of this posting):
  • Genuine Panasonic CGA-D54 5400 mAh 38.8 Wh $123 (B&H) 7.2V
  • Ikan IBP-D88 8.8 Ah 65 Wh (with push button battery life indicator) $152 (B&H) $170 (Ikan) 7.4V
  • Lenmar LIP540 5400 mAh 38.8 Wh $70 7.2V
  • Ikan IBP-D54 5400 mAh $70 (Ikan) 7.4V
  • Cameron Sino CS-PVD54S 5400 mAh $40 7.4V
  • Maximal Power DB PAN CGA-D54 5400 mAh $34 7.4V
  • Upstart C59-D54S 5400 mAh $35
  • No-Name 5400 mAh ...
Anyone been using one (or more) of the above and what has been your experience...?

I don't see a huge value of the higher capactiy Ikan battery...as you can purchase two (or more) 'standard' Panasonic-compatible batteries for that price, and end up with more 'run' time...but I suppose if you are the type of driver who always drives with a full tank of gas...then getting the bigger tank might be reassuring...??

I have tried others brands none of them work as solid as the orginal bettries. They dont show the correct time left and they break easly at the seal. I wont use any other brand but oem.

Same here. I shoot for a living, and cannot chance losing critical footage just because I wanted to save a few bucks. That happened to me once, I shot with lesser off brand batteries, and one died right in the middle of a shoot. They are just not worth the risk.

Agree with the posters above. I've tried multiple 3rd party brands in the past and they all failed while the originals keep on ticking to this day.

I learned my lesson the hard way in the past. I purchased a third party battery. Subsequently, the battery overcharged and blew out my power supply unit. A costly repair that could have been prevented if I wasn't looking to save a few dollars.

Thank you Lou, dkamisat, sewolla, and rzr219, all valid opinions. My personal experience has been good, with genuine panasonic batteries lasting a few years and then not holding a charge well, alongside the CS batteries lasting the same period of time (I label the batteries with their start date, and rotate them through usage to try and avoid overusing any single battery). And in terms of pricing the CS batteries occupy the mid-field...in any case, thanks for your responses...
