Century Optics Wide Angle Attachment

Just bought one of these and it comes with a lens shade. When the lenshade attaches however it blocks off he sensor that is on the right side of the lens. This is the auto focus sensor isn't it? The Canon lenshade has a hole in it to allow that sensor to work. Why would Century optics not think of this? What do I have to do, get the drill out?

Canon recommends you turn off the Auto Sensor when using any wide angle lens. Page 35 of user manual. Switching from IAF to normal auto focus is Thru The Lens autofocusing, which is better for any lens attachment. Whereas IAF uses the sensor and TTL together, suitable for the stock lens.

Even the Canon branded WA lens will block the IAF sensor on the A1.

Yup, but to it's credit the lens produced great results for us on a shoot in Vegas where optics and focusing can be hell on a doc. shoot. Best of luck to you with that converter though.

Thanks for that. I guess I should have gone to the manual. BTW, I know most of you probably shoot manual focus but does anyone use IAF rather than the normal focus? When would it be preferable?
