..it shields light..yes. but not all filters are simply color filters. you cant white balance up a gradiated, polarized, ND, soft focus, promist, star, diffusion, ultracon, lowcon, ect... type filter. and some of those filters may help you get the look you want so that your image is good to work with in post.. you cant polarize out glaring light in post, and you cant gradiate out a bright sky to bring it into the exposure range in post.. itll just stay blown out. you cant get more dynamic range in post but you could use a filter to help achieve that while shooting. blah blah.. but agreed they are waay too expensive. im still woring on a healthy alternative. takes a while to get all the companies in harmony to get anything moving.

..just curious, but was someone talking about matteboxes in this thread?

Because it's supposed to -- that's the whole point of getting the anamorphic adapter! :)

That's some DOF! did you shoot this at a high shutter speed?

No, this was an old shot when I was developing the SoftScreen for shallow-DOF effects.

Yes -- that's the whole point of why you would use it. The anamorphic lets you use the full surface of the CCD, giving you ove 33% more pixels in your image as compared to squeeze mode.

Now, for clarification, the top shot isn't squeeze mode, it was shot in letterbox and stretched in post, but it's about equivalent to what squeeze mode would have done.
