Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

Recently received a Century Optics .6X Wide Angle Adaptor from EVS. Thank you very much to Rush at EVS, Barry_S, and everyone who voted for 'The Loner' last month.

Some people might be interested in seeing before and after grabs.

With NO adaptor and zoomed all the way out.

With the adaptor (black box is for comparison).

And here is what the adaptor looks like.

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

very nice glass. will have to check out your entry!

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

Thats sweet!
Dang, I need to get me one of those.
So PK, I got the formatt matte box and you don't. :P

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

PK...this might be a dumb question but what does it look like zoomed all the way in?

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

The lens looses focus at about mid-zoom. So zoomed all the way in looks like a big blur. (Right now) I don't think the zoom limitation is a big problem. The lens will primarily be used for wide shots ::) and occassional minor zooming. It should be great for shooting inside cars, small rooms, etc. Which won't need heavy zooms anyway. Outdoors it will be nice too.

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

Congratulations PK, I am glad you finally got it! ;D

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

Thanks a bunch for those comparisons!

I have actually been wanting to see what the difference is with the adaptor on/off...

now if we can only get someone to post a grab of the difference between the normal lens vs the anamorhpic adapter... this seems to be some sort of government secret that only certain people may see..

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

What were you filming in there? Just kidding, I've used the Fisheye and the wide angle from Century, It really is great glass. keep it clean!

Well, not really... I know I've posted probably a dozen test shots over the years, although I can't for the life of me think of where the posts are now. Resolution charts, mainly, but other stuff as well... And, of course, there's comparison video on the DVX DVD...

Here's some shots that I dug up off my website... this first one is in stretched letterbox mode:

And this is anamorphic:

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

hmm, the anamorphic looks sharper. why is that?
That's some DOF! did you shoot this at a high shutter speed?

That's some pretty neat stuff!

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

So, the top grab is squeeze mode, not unstretched when brought into your NLE?

There is a discernable difference in sharpness - thanks for the comparison!

*drool*

Could you post something close up to it? How does the fish see it? 8)

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

P.K.--Cool, glad you got the lens. I have one and love it--the quality is great. Big thanks also go to the fine people at Century Optics for coming up with the prize for Rush and EVS to pass on. More goodies are on the way for future DVXfest winners, including some serious glass, so if you shoot more, you can save less. ;)

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

In those grabs I see more image quality in the anamorphic one.

Is it possible the anamorphic to have more quality (another glass before the camera) than the normal lens?

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

.. i think those shots are using the softscreen.. barry? am i right on that

Re: Century Optics .6x Wide Angle Grabs

Ok this might be a stupid question but what exactly does the matte box do besides shield light rays from the side and allow you attach filter to the lense? Those things are expensive and i dont understand why you wouldnt just white balance to a different color or add the color you want in post as opposide to geling in front of the lens? Can someone shed some light?
