Hi, I am a Vancouver resident unable to find a XH-A1 for less than $3599 in Canada, so I'm looking to purchase a XH-A1 online from B&H or J&R for $3299.

I would like to know how much the import duties and taxes will end up being.

Thanks!

I purchased my HVX and associated equipment in the US. I paid no duties on these items, however, the US purchase price was converted to Canadian funds and I was charged full taxes on this amount.

I live in Ontario, so I was charged both PST and GST.

That being said, I also live on the CAN/US border, so I had the items shipped to Michigan then I picked them up and brought them through customs myself.
Not sure if your camera is shipped to your Canadian address whether there are any additional fees for clearing customs? I can't imagine that being the case, but it'll certainly delay your shipment.

Good luck.

The taxes and brokerage fee should be around $500-600. Plus exchange, it might be over $4300 CDN. While it was worth bringing it across the border a while back when the street price in Canada was higher. You can find the XH-A1 in stores at a comparable price. I saw one at a dealer for $3499. CDN. Even at that price it'd be below $4000 CDN after GST/PST. Try bargaining with the dealer, ask for a $100 or more discount or something! If it's in stock and just sitting there, you never know!

I was surprised to see a Sony Prosumer HDV camera at Future Shop (owned by Best Buy), forgot if it was a V1U or A1U...i wonder if they would special order a XH-A1?
