CD 7Q 4k firmware update

sorry if my post might have been misleading. What I wanted to say:

Imho the 7Q has is strongest basis in the FS700 market for several reasons.
There are way more FS700 sold than C500 or ARRI Alexa where the 7Q fits also.
The FS700 without the 7Q has only 1080 AVCHD. That's outdated technology.
A 7Q with high quality ProRes and keeps the FS700 uptodate. This is a vaild
argument for a lot of FS700 owners.

The FS7 produces 10Bit 4K 422 internally and it will be enough for many maybe most.
To get the 7Q working with the FS7 you will also have to buy the XDCA for about 2.5k
That makes 2.5k plus 500$ V-Mount batteries plus 2k 7Q plus 500$ minimum for media
= 5.5 k to get the 7Q working at a FS7. With more than 2 x 256 SSDs it will be 6K.
My guess is that a lot of (most) people will think more different whether they really
need RAW if they have to spend 6K for that.

That's why imho CS is probably strongly interested to keep the FS700 market alive
as it's their biggest market and their sales for the FS7 won't hit the sales for the FS700.
my 2cts.

yep! It's pushing into F5 territory. Definitely more rarified air. Why not just get an F5? It's a much better camera, about the same weight, and more attractive form factor, at least, to me. Now, if Metabones will just make a Speedbooster with a PL to EOS, I'd be all set.

I had the same idea but discarded this plan.
The F5 is way more expensive, it needs an epensive viewfinder plus expensive media.
Up to now there is no official internal 4K resolution. If you want to shoot RAW you need
the R5 chunk.

yeah, for sure the media prices are outrageous. really not any more so than the CD media, tho'. still, it's very expensive, no argument. but, I do wonder about the FS7 with the addons to get to RAW. Isn't the FS7 with an O7Q just as cumbersome as the FS700 with an O7Q? And if you want to go the Sony route to recording RAW, you need 3, that's right, 3 add on modules, including the R5.

I definitely get the feeling that internal XAVC at 4k up to 60fps is the big draw for the FS7, and waaaaaaay good enough for most users and purposes.

Mitch mentioned, that they demonstrated a running 4K ProRes recording mode during the IBC 2014.
And they got Apple's certification, so they passed several tests.

So Mitch might be right, the Release date Sep 29 was set and then, development crushed the release because they tried to add another function that failed. No silly marketing games, but still a need to fully prioritize Firmware development, avoiding that type of conflicts and more quality management in the pipeline and not at the end. From my perspective, that reason is even worse.

It's good that Sony introduced the FS7 and that are more 4K recording devices arriving in market. More pressure to deliver the promisses. And the price drop is a good sign of that.
You're correct, but only up to a certain point.

We did announce and show 4K ProRes functioning at IBC, and we do have Apple certification. And we did indeed fully believe that we would make an end of September release date with "no silly marketing games". But that's where you go a bit astray. During testing we found that a function integral to the functionality of 4K ProRes had an issue, one that was unforseen and needed to be corrected and extensively tested again before we could release. So we had to push back the release while that process was completed.

This was for a function that we thought was already completed but discovered another bit of code caused a major issue within. Seemingly unrelated operations can effect one another in unforseen ways. We thought there was not a problem until suddenly there was a problem. So it is now being corrected.

Amber is away from the office for now, but I am unaware of any obligation we issued to email you personally with such an update.

Oh Mitch... Was the announcement not through email? Did it not come from Amber? You see where I'm going with this? Jeez.

As I said a few posts back, I am the one who neglected to have news of the delay go out in an email. And as I said there as well: my bad.
