Bluepsider used Photoshop I think -- that detail doesn't exist in the original grab.
Yes this was Photoshop. Basically everything I do in photoshop can be easily applied in AE. Since this was only a single frame I used Photoshop instead. 8)
insomniac, you should put the smoke on the red truck, once we tried to pull it into the garage to thaw out (which was like 10 feet from where it is in this shot) it crapped out and wouldn't start.
wing, I like that dual layers alot, I've never tried to do any of that.

Hi toilet_bob,
Yeah, layers can give a little more control and options than just straight filtering. I used two layers. The base layer is your original image. The top layer has, from memory (I didn't save the FCP project), these filters in this stacking order:
Channel - Invert: Y, 30-40%.
Channel - Arithmetic: Screen, RGB, light cyan-ish blue, about 30% or so.
The top layer's composite mode is Darken. I also turned it's Opacity to 40-50%.
This effectively turns the brighter parts of the picture slightly darker and slightly more blue. The original picture as the base layer serves to ensure we're not just seeing the effect, but rather a balance of the original and some of the effect layered on top.
