CC this baby! Suggestions?

I shot this the other day, and it was supposed to look like it was during sunrise.....I tried to get the whites darker, but uhh, didn't work too well.

So this is the original non CC verison. Could somebody try and get this to look like dawn? Or give me some tips on how to achieve a look that will work.

NOTE: I know its interlaced..........shhhh, don't tell anybody! ;)

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

The original doesn't look properly white-balanced to me, but I gave it a shot for ya. Put a 16:9 mask on there too. I just hate 4:3 sorry ;D.

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

Yeah, I hate 4:3 too, but i try to shoot without the bars on, that way if I need to move the footage, I have a little room for reframing in post.

Yours looks good, I was going for the more pink/blue style. But the yellow doesn't look to bad. what did you use?

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

I just did some light corrections and added a color gradient filter on it to give the sky a different color.

I figure I gotta throw my own hat into the ring. So heres my version. Still gotta bring down the sun somehow....don't know if its possible.

Trying to turn water into wine on this one. Looks like there was not a proper WB and the exposure is smoking hot. And interlaced? Ucckk! ;D

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

Yeah I hate interlaced just as much as 4:3 but its for broadcast, and we are having a problem with progressive stuff. :'( I was shooting at F16 is there anyway to compensate for the whites besides my iris?

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

yup I sure was. That sunlight is a killer, especially on all the snow.. I thought about ND filters, but I was afraid of underexposing the foreground. We're thinking about reshooting, if we do, I wan't it to be an overcast day.

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

No, I think you can use the 1/8 ND filter without underexposed footage. Just don't forget to change the aperture! ;D

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

If I use the ND filter to darken it down, and just open my iris to compensate, is it going to give me the same results as the blown out whites I have now? Or is going to even those out?

(I realize that what I'm asking may be common knowledge, Barry's book is in the mail ;D)

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

Always listen to your camera especially on ND and other exposure issues. I always hit AUTO IRIS to see what the camera reccomends and always dial down ZEBRAS after the fact (if any and back in Manual Iris mode).

Another idea is that a MAttebox would really help here in using an ND Grad Filter. THis way, you could have a rich detailed sky while still being able to open up below the horizon (something to consider).

In short? Listen to the camera!

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

Looks like a lot of work. Take control over the iris. Adjust. Adjust.

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

Looks like junk, but... dawn you said? I finally gave up trying to fix the snow on the house.

Re: CC this baby! Suggestions?

This footage is still salvagable - first rule of color correction is that less is more. Try small changes and let the audience decide if it is morning. Put in the chirping of morning birds to help sell that it is early. Here are a few attempts - removing saturation and subtle blue.

Drop some brightness.

A little fun!

As long as you remove some of the red/yellow of the trees, you sell the blue/cold feeling. Otherwise, the yellowish morning could also work.
