Casting dead people

Styrofoam is pretty cheap, easy to carry, and pretty easy to shape. You can pick up all sorts of spray paints to give the color and texture of stone. I could even find you some DIY sites for that.

Thanks for the information. I live in Hawaii. I intend to use the deceased person's name but it looks like I'll be in a lot of troubles if I use a real name. I'm thinking about creating a fake tombstone now. Have you finished your film yet? If you have, can I take a look?

I wish It was complete, hopefully filming it next year i've put it off for now. I think below is you're local film commision if you didn't already know.

Best of luck with Production though. =]

Unless the names on the tombstone are relevant to your film, a 'shallow depth of field' is probably the easiest way around the issue.

We did a cemetary scene and it was in the release that we couldn't show actual, full names. It was more than easy enough to shoot around it. We even had people laying up against the tombstones and such. Play with your depth of field a bit and it makes it even easier. Back way the hell up and zoom in. :)

Also, Hawaii is a place of spirit, so you don't want to go treading on local customs.

I actually really want to show the name on the tombstone in one of the scenes and yes Hawaiian people really respect ghosts, spirits etc. I can't mess around with this tradition :-)

Thanks for the advice. I might go with this route if working with a real tombstone has too much hassles. Please let me know if you can find some DIY sites :dankk2:
