When's Barry Writing the HD100 Book?

So Barry,

Whaddya say? The JVC equivalent to your DVX book? I'd bet JVC would talk to you about doing something like you did with that, i.e. bundling it with the camera, seeing as how well it went with the DVX...

That was the original reason I bought an HD100 in the first place; not only was I going to use it to shoot convention coverage, but my main goal was to do the HD100 book/DVD. For many reasons it didn't work out; mainly it was a timing thing, it took so very long to get ahold of the HD100 and by the time I finally did get it, my window of opportunity had closed: the DVX100B was out and I had to get to work on the DVX Book revision, and as soon as that was done the HVX arrived. I had planned on doing the HD100 book/dvd in the window of time between June & October, but the HD100 didn't arrive until September 29th. And when mine showed up it was a lemon, and after a week of hassle I sent it back.

I wanted to do it, but things didn't work out that way. I had even talked with someone at JVC about it, and was going to partner with someone on the forums to do the DVD portion.

And with the HD bootcamps and the other new businesses I'll be announcing shortly, there's just no way to get to it. But I think Tim Dashwood and Nate Weaver should do it though -- those guys are the JVC HD100 masters!

You might also want to check out the GY-HD100 Handbook by Steve Mullen (another member of these forums):

I've been looking for a good book that will take me from start (you've unboxed your camera) to finish (here's your finished DVD-HDTape or whatever). Is this the book? I wish it was available in a store so I could take a look at it. The chapters look promising, but that's just not enough for me.

Yeah. I've been approached about it a couple of times, but available time is always an issue. I probably already have enough material to self-publish a pdf book of tips and tricks to get the most out of the camera, deal with different post workflows, and some hidden secrets.
I'd like to at least start a website from a cinematography perspective, instead of a purely technical one, so that beginners and veteran filmmakers alike can easily understand the newer concepts with digital HDV acquisition. I picked up iLife06 with iWeb in February and have been eager to do it. I just need some more server space on my .mac and some spare time!

I have to agree with you there. I've been able to learn a ton fast about the HVX-200 and HD-100 due to the online community here. VERY helpful and time saving when trying to make these cameras perform their best.

I'm a big fan of books, dvd's and seminars too. They usually are well organized and a book is easy to reference on location. Sometimes I get a headache going through so much material though!

I'm up for a workshop. Just got my camera and I'd pay for a workshop showing the tricks of this wonderful camera. Without a doubt learning all the settings to achieve certain looks would be great.
Maybe we can post a still from our cameras nd the look we achieved and how (settings) were used. Ex. Saving Private Ryan look and then post a pic of it and settings.

What if I told you something was in the works right now that's right up this alley. Would you all be interested?

hey started i think when he bought it way back when, but when he got the split screen thing he kinda ran the other way.

maybe now that they seem to have fixed alot of things, who knows?
