Cartoni Focus good enough for Red One?

Hi, I just reserved my Red One yesterday #253, but I plan on ordering a HVX200 this week and also buy the Cartoni Focus F102 (based on Jarred's review). I know the Red spec's aren't finalized yet, but will the Cartoni Focus be good enough for Red One with their 300mm lens? Or would with a full Red setup, with Cage, Magazine, Matte etc.. be more than the 22lbs the Focus head supports? I don't want to go out and buy another tripod later, so can someone recommend one that I could use now for the HVX200 and in the future for Red?

Red body as far as we know comes in at 7 pounds. I would add 2 pounds for the cage, and maybe a pound for the internal drive. Now the lens.. 35mm lenses can way 10 pounds alone... so your getting pretty close once you add mattebox and rails and follow focus, but it should cut it.

If you want to go the next step up, your paying about 2x the price to hold something 35 pounds, and the head is gonna be real heavy so luggin in around wont be the best experience.
 
you should try out the cartoni with a approx 12-15lbs (or more) camera to see how it feels to you ... i usually cut the weight heads claims in half.
i have a 501 bogen and it says it's rated at for a max 13lbs = sorry ain't no way it can handle that .. yes you can sit a 13lbs camera on it but you are NOT going to get smooth tilts, pans ..
i would not even put a XL1/2 on a 501 ... it works good with DVX100, GL and smaller camera's ... so all depending on how the load feels to your liking = try it out before you buy with a load on it ....
also make sure you try out different size ball/bowls with it - i think you can get either a 50mm or 75mm ball level with it = IMO too small for a 10lbs+ camera - get at least a 100mm ball/bowl

if you are going to use follow focus add rails .. then maybe a matt box that fits on the rails ? battery ? zoom motor & control ? VF = more weight.
 
the focus hits its weight limits fine.. The 501 and 503 cant handle even the HVX loaded.. and there is a reason, and you are correct putting it at half the wegiht. Reason is, The 501 and 503 are not true fluid heads.. it works on direct friction which changes with load. The counterbalance is not adjustable on them either, so you end up usually fighting the weight on tilts unless you fall in the spring's sweet spot weight wise.
