Cars and Guitars

For those who like Cars & Guitars, this is my attempt at some video art.

Actually a friend is hosting a fundraiser by the same name and asked if I could produce something he could show on a large flat panel at the entrance so I did this in about a day. It needs a little more work but I thought it was good enough to share.

I hope you enjoy it.

Mostly, even on some of the video of the cars I used a frame grab to make it easier and faster to match what I was doing.

Typically I'm not a Zen-type of guy but I was having fun trying something a little different. By the end I thought it wasn't half bad, Nothing complicated, everything in the video is worth a significant amount of money so I just wanted to try and make it look good. There's aonly so many ways you can shoot a guitar...

Of course adding naked women did cross my mind but that wouldn't be real Zen like now would it?..

Nice clean footage. Its all about the zen. Naked women (fit ones) are calming too. Why else would ancient Greece and Rome be filled with statues of them?

So well done. How did you do that fade thingy at the end..loved all this!

very nice chuck!

Skilled ...that thing at the end is in an Andrew Kramer Tutorial called "Disentegration" on Videocopilot.net

I did it for one of my videos...well i added my own flavour...as did Chuck.

Hey man your giving away my secrets. Just kidding.

The sad part is that what appeared in the video was just a test and nowhere near complete. I needed to add smoke and particles etc.. But I got lazy and needed to just finish up so I decided to leave it the was it was. When its done correctly it looks much better.

If you use After Effects you really should check out Videocoplitot.net. Andrew Kramer is to After Effects kind of like Philip Bloom is to the 7D. He does amazing stuff, develops some very useful "inexpensive" products and just shows you how to do so much.

Also, in case anyone is interested, on another forum someone pointed out that this is titled Cars & Guitars" but the soundtrack was all piano.

I knew that people would pick up on that but I liked the music and felt it was poignant. But part of posting on these forums is to solicit feedback and possibly incorporate it into the next project. In this case I went back and re-edited it to a different soundtrack. The same music but jazzier and with additional instruments - yes Guitars!

I don't want to start another thread but I'm hoping that you might check this out and leave me feedback, maybe compare the new to the previous version.

I hope you enjoy this more.

Chuck, looks great. Question are all of your in focus out of focus type pans done in AE or did you dolly them on a black background or greenscreen. Looks fabulous love the effect.

Def liked the 2nd one better. Just much more body to it...if that makes sense.

Thanks, I agree. The Temp was a bit quicker too, enabling me to add a few more shots without making it look like I just stuck them in.

Thanks for taking the time to view both version.

They were done in AE. I had one shot of a guitar that while I was moving the camera went out of focus and that's what actually led me to the idea of using the rack focus as a transition. But setting up the focal length in AE significantly changed the DOF so you can't tell the real camera moves from the fake. I hope this makes sense...

Anyway, thanks for watching.
