GH2 Card Tests : Patriot EP : 32GB SDHC Card / 64GB SDXC UHS-I

Ok so here goes. I did not end up having anytime to test my card thoroughly. I did a few simple tests around the house and transferred the footage to my machine. It seemed like everything was good until i got to the shoot today, I inserted the card into the camera and formatted the card and everything seemed OK. I shot a 1 minute interview that took only 3 takes. I turned the camera off and later turned it back on to do another shot of someone else and the camera immediately gave me a "insert card again" I'm assuming error message. I'm new to the camera so i still don't know all the ins and outs, error messages etc.. I turned the camera off and turned it back on and same message, even after taking the card out and putting it back in. I turned the camera off and used my HMC150 for the rest of the shoot. When i got home i ran to my card reader and luckily the reader read the card right away and i was able to transfer the data. I took the card and tried it in the camera one last time but same error message. So i plugged it back in the card reader and formatted it using the computer and tried it back in the camera and it was able to read the card again which is weird. Looks like i might have to put this card to the side for any paid gigs and fork over the cash for the sandisk extreme pro 64gb card.

Oh and btw I'm on flowmotion v2.02 and was shooting 1080 24p at 24L which is 32MB/s when i got the error. Lenses were canon FD 50mm 1.4 and a Canon FD 28mm 2.8.

Now just imagine if you didn't have your other camera with you..... When dealing with Hack GH2 that you know requires higher level cards it's to much of a gamble. The higher rated SDHC cards cost more for a reason.... Lucky you had a backup.

...Wow, that sucks. I would contact Patriot support and tell them the card is defective: Support@Patriotmem.com

I am heading out in about 10 minutes to shoot another long form interview with my GH2 with the Patriot EP 64GB card running FlowMotion 2.02 at 24H. So far no problems with the card I have.

Back from my morning shoot. No problems with FlowMotion at 24H and the Patriot EP 64GB card. Footage looks great. 30 minute interview shot in a tiny office with a Lowel Pro light and a 45 inch umbrella slightly off to the side to produce nice shape and shadow on the subject's face. ( the video is for internal use only, so I can't post anything )

...I am going to try and buy another Patriot EP 64GB card from a different batch this weekend, just to see if my working EP card isn't a fluke.

I purchased one of these (64gb), benchmarks are good, read and write very fast, I will use it this week and report.

Later: So far so good, and super transfer times to the computer using a generic USB 3 reader.

...I noticed that Patriot is now selling an "EP PRO" version of their cards ( 90MB/sec read speed, 50MB/sec write speed ) which cost a lot more than the regular "EP" version of their cards. At this higher price I would buy SanDisk 95MB/sec cards instead, as the price difference isn't huge.

The only good news is that Patriot now has a $10 mail-in rebate on the regular "EP" cards, which moves the price down to $34 US for a 64GB SDXC UHS-I card.

Patriot EP 64GB SDXC UHS-I Card : $34 at NewEgg.com with $10 mail-in Rebate

Has anybody tested these cards against the SanDisk 64GB for spanning high detail scenes in 24H with the higher bitrate GOP1 settings, like Sedna?
