Car Mount/Glidecam/60p and Skating

Awesome vid (and vids, been watching yours for a while now!) my only suggestion would be to use vimeo because youtube hd is always choppy as hell and doesn't do the video as much justice!

I'd love to see pictures of your rigs!

His rig looks pretty simple, I think it's just a Glidecam HD2000. At least, that's what I can see in his reflection on the car!

I guess you could use something like one of these hotshoe mounted on top of your camera to give a little more light to what you're shooting - considering you're never usually more than a few feet from your subject.

Fantastic operator on the glide cam IMO

The only critique is when you cut to dark you see your shadow - Id cut that because it makes us aware of the operator

I guess you used a slider for the exit the car shot ?

The car to car was glidecam ? or on a car mount ?

The on camera light would be a good solution, but it just depends on the look you're going for. If you really don't care too much about how the final image turns out, and you're more interested in documenting it than anything else, go with the on camera light. It will work best. Otherwise, hiding little lights along the way isn't a bad idea, but it'll definitely take quite a long time to light everything just right. It's hard enough to light a single room, let alone 100 feet of a school or something similar. Sometimes you do just have to go with what available light gives you.

I'd just try and maybe try and use some sound effects. All I hear is music really, and you don't get much sense of the space in the video. It's mostly in the beginning though, as you would expect to hear the car and him opening the door and things like that.

Are these just straight out of the camera, or did you play with them at all?

you had no issues securing the cam w/ the gecko? it might be tough for me to trust it, but it's such a good deal.

Vinny,

had a question about the glidecam hd2000...i'm thinking of getting a glidecam but the 4000....do you feel that is a big difference...I know it is a pound heavier...I love your stuff...but just think the bigger one might be slightly better for my hvx and if I put a monitor on the camera?

Do you just look at the back of the lcd in broad daylight? It seems hard to see when you are in broad daylight

Also wondering when you are skating around where do you set your focus too since you are not racking focus...like do you set it at 8 feet at like an f11 and just let it go?

hey really nice work!

ähm, besides can anyone tell me how the flickering effect at 0:28 is called? I've seen this in other vids and really want to know how to do this!

thanks so much for sharing vinny :)

Some great work there. Really like the artistic opening to the film. I've worked for ESPN and this type of camera work will make other Op's shake in their boots.

That 50mm - really a great look. Making me want to pull the trigger on this.
The Glidecam - wow. It transforms a basic boring shot into something amazing. Have you used the merlin before ? For 1/2 the price I need to do some serious considerations as the footage looks great.

Depending on what ur going to have on the camera.. ( I have a friend that uses the 4000 but has the extra grip with the extra battery to add weight to it ) If ur going to glide it with just the body and len's the 2000 is great.. I actually am not using all the weights the 2000 comes with and it balances really good.
