Im looking for something to put the GH1 on so it rests on the dash of my car, I have plenty of space. I have seen the clamp someone used on the pasenger side headrest which isn't bad but still looking for other options.
You might consider getting a window mount -- I picked up one of these when I was in LA from Filmtools -- I added another cheap head to it so there is more versatility in mounting a camera. Has worked great for me!
I am using a GPS mount that I drilled to have a 1/4" bolt go through it and it works great! Is adjustable, and stable. The camera hangs upside down off front windshield and I wedge stuff (a power invertor with a cushy visoer-mount tissue holder atop it) between it and the dash so it is resting there. The suction cup supports the weight just fine but I need it resting on stuff to cut down on vibration (and of course risk.)
I guess that one on Amazon got decent reviews - so maybe it is stronger that it looks. The one I got from FilmTools is really strong and works great. I will try to snap a photo of it mounted on my windshield and post it. Would like to see your power-inverter/tissue holder rig too Ben!
Ye have asked and ye shall receive...I think this is the mount (not quite sure) http://www.MountGuys.com/product_p/mfx26-hp.htm Took base thing off (my was different) and drilled its hole to 1/4". I'd buy the one on amazon before this but I had this already and wasn't using it and therefore it was free.
Works great! I used it on the windows at the top of rockafeller center in NYC when they wouldn't let me use my tripod, I also used it in a car sans support from below, but it had a fair amount of vibration. Works great like this though! If you hold it from below that works to (for example camera person can help support it when it's on side window getting a shot of the driver.) After doing a bunch of interior car scenes still for moving with an HVX-200 and Letus in a garage (black flagging and a grip moving a light...it was for night thank god) this is a welcome change! (only downside is sound but we do lots of ADR anyway!)
