Capturing P2 from camera to Mac

Hey i am just trying to capture my P2 to my computer and when i did i got an error msg on my camera LCD screen saying "system error P2 micon error" and my copying or downloading on my desktop also stopped, why did this happen? and should i shut down my camera and start over again

What procedure are you using to ingest the P2 card? What program? Mac or PC? Firewire or USB? Are you just trying to mount the card on your desktop or import the data files? Need more info...

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed your thread title said MAC...but still need the other info.

DGW & David, the procedure that i am using to ingest the P2 is firewire thru final cut pro 5.0.4 for mac, and i was trying both to mount the card on the desktop and drag and drop into a separate folder and also, went into FCP and used import p2, and in both cases the error msg came up

hey guys i havent had the problem in a while, but it just came back, i am useing final cut 6, and am importing thru log and transfer, i am using MAC. Im not sure what you mean when you say "procedure". but i am plugging my camera in with a fire wire cable directly to my computer and then going thru Final cut 6 to log and transfer, then when i have loaded a couple of clips it gives me that error msg in my camera lcd screen. i hope that helps

Really, wgzn? I thought only firewire was the 'supported' protocol for connecting Panny cameras to a mac and USB was the 'supported' protocol for PC...

That was the original recommendation. Recently it seems like OSX is perfectly happy with USB as well. Perhaps it was the switch to Intel, or to Snow Leopard, or ... I don't know, but recently it seems like everyone works better with USB.

i have had tons of connecting issues transferring via firewire. i switched to doingit via usb and it works first time every time

just download the raw files instead of converting them from the camera?

downloading the whole cards to your computer BEFORE doing log and transfer is ALWAYS the best choice.

Great advice guys thanks, i guess i was in the dark about USB i always thought USB could handle the high res stuff, but i will switch right away. i haven't tried to just take them straight from the dick on the desktop, but i would think it would have the same thing occur. thanks guys USB i go

How would I use a USB on my HVX? Does it have a USB port that I dont know about? Sorry for the dumb question but all I see is a Firewire port. Thanks for any help. And also, just to clarify, if dumping footage straight form my camera, I should be using a USB cable for better performance?

Thanks. I don't know how I missed that. As stated above I guess its because I thought the HVX was only firewire compatible. So, all I would do is dump the footage the same way just instead of plugging in a firewire cable I use a USB? or is there any specific change I have to do?

EDIT: also, not sure if I missed this, but does using a USB dump the footage faster than a firewire cable?
