Capturing live HVX feed into Final Cut Pro

I'm experimenting with capturing a live feed from the HVX into FCP. I searched, but did not find the answer.

So far, I was able to stream in 1080 and 720 modes but I have to select "non controllable device" under "device control" to be able to record, otherwise, I get a "End Of Tape, recording aborted etc.." message. Any way to fix this issue?

The "non controllable device" recording works, but it ignores the time code from the HVX (which I have set to "free run"). Is there any way to record a live feed and keep the free run time code from the HVX?

Also, I tried streaming 480i just to test, but the HVX only streams that format while in TAPE mode? Can't get it to stream 480i in P2 mode. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Why are you recording your footage live? When recording P2, use the Panasonic P2 Import feature to bring the footage directly from the card in the camera into FCP.

What version of FCP are you running? You're really going about capturing from P2 the wrong way.

As far as I know selecting "non controllable device" is the only way to capture live footage. I've also had problems trying to capture live 480i footage so I'd like to know as well if there is a way to do this.

I think you misunderstood his post. He is capturing footage straight to the computer and not using P2 cards. He just has it in P2 mode.

Ok, capturing LIVE does require non-controllable device, as there's no time code being generated. TC in the camera is only generated when the record button is pressed. When recording live, the camera just passes a video stream with no TC. So, yes, for live recording, that's how you have to do it.

I'm running the latest FCP 5.12
Trying to get this to work right as its a feature given to us to use, great for studio situations. Thanks for the feedback.
