Capturing DVX on Macbook Pro

I just got my Macbook through and have killed the internal drive with an installation of FCP, Motion and loadsa plugins.... could someone tell me, what's my best drive option for capturing footage? What say an external firewire drive, or a USB or a ...... ?

If the DVX is hooked up to the Mac through Firewire, what is the best way to apture and insure reliability?

hi, i use smartdisk's firelite (80 gig) as my external hard drive by daisy chaining, meaning you connect your firewire cable (4 pin to 6 pin) from your dvx to your external hard drive then connect another firewire cable (this time it's 6 pin to 6 pin) from your external hard drive to your macbook pro. Make sure that your external hard drive is your main scratch disk. After you're done with that set-up you're good to go, and also use a cheaper camcorder for dv playback to protect your dvx's heads...hope this helps.

Thanks for the help again. Please excuse the newbie-esque questions but please could anyone clarify.. using my old consumer JVC DV camcorder for playback won't compromise the footage will it?

Also, the method described here by crazyberns... is that the standard way people work when using a MBP to capture?

Thanks

They do, at work we have a Raid - 5 NAS (network attached storage) that is on a Gigabit lan in the edit room.

We can capture to it from the Mac Pro and it works great, we can also edit off of it with out having to copy the files to a local drive.

Thats probobly your best bet. Too bad they dont make an Ethernet 100mbps drive.
