Hello all,
I'm new to this site. It has been tremendously helpful to me over the last couple weeks. I recently bought an XH-A1 and am a mac user with FCP 5. I've shot HDV footage in 30f and need dire confirmation to make sure I'm capturing properly in native HDV. The canon manual says 30f records in 30fps progressive and outputs to 60fps interlaced. This suggests to me that the following settings are correct:
Capture: HDV 1080i 60, 29.97 (NTSC)
Sequence: 1440 * 1080 (both aspect and pixels)
Compressor: HDV 1080i 60
Much has been written about FCP 6 and 24p (f) capture settings, as well as ProRes. But I've failed to find out whether there is a 1080 30p (or f) capture setting. Does anyone know? Should I be upgrading before capturing? I do plan to upgrade to vs 6, but at the moment it's out of my budget.
One concern is that if I capture progressive material 'interlaced', will it no longer be progressive upon DVD export?
Thanks again for everything, now and before.
