Capture SD w/ p2

I have not captured SD footage off of a P2 card in FCP yet. It looked to me that the import window in FCP automatically captures in HD. And there was no tab to change formats to 480i. Do I need to dub the footage to a tape to capture the footage?

Yeah, everything is on my external. It is the newest version of FCP, with the "import panasonic P2" window. Which I normally use but there are no options for format that I see.

Did you run through the easy set up to match your camera settings and create/open a new sequence with those settings before attempting to log and transfer?

I bet you hit the nail on the head, I was capturing 720 originally but I didnt change the sequence settings before importing SD. Lets see

surprisingly didn't work.

Maybe, It is because there is 720 footage on the P2 also. I can't do it now but I am going delete the already captured 720 footage and retry. Hopefully that will do it.

it doesn't matter if there is 1080, 720 or 480 clips on your card, it will do all of that fine. if you're using fcp 5, its file>import panasonic p2. in fcp 6 its file>log & transfer. the log and transfer doesn't care about what its shot in or at.

i shoot most of my stuff for work at 480, and then broll at 720 sometimes for vfr. and it has never given me a problem with different mediums.

Sorry for the dumb question, but i've been trying to search, and I still can't find it. I know 1080p and 720p take up 16 minutes and 720pN takes up about 42 minutes on a 16GB P2 card. How much SD footage can you fit on a 16GB P2 card? How much DVCPRO-50 footage?
