Capture Problem Xh A1 - FCP

I just got the XH A1 and can't establish an HD connection via firewire. I have FCP 5.0, is that version compatible?
 
Did You try iMovie yet? If that works than you might have to verify that you got to Easy setup firewire depending if your capturing HD or SD make your selection then also.
 
Version 5 is just fine. Thing is FCP and cameras can get figidy when it comes to how/when it will recognize the camera. Even after shooting a feature with the camera I can't pinpoint the exact order things should be done in lol.

If it wont recognize, restart FCP with the camera already on, plugged in, etc. then try. Try different combinations of things, just know that trying to hook up the thing after FCP is on is when you'll have some trouble. Stinks I know, but it's kinda a mystery in the universe.
 
So, I switched the Camera to SD mode and FCP was able to read it just fine. When I go to HD it says it cannot establish connection. I've tried restarting FCP with the camera on, even playing...but still no luck. What capture settings do you guys suggest? HDV Apple Codec? And what should the Device Control be set at?

Appreciate all the help!
 
Hey E.J, I went into easy setup and it worked! Success!! I can't wait to go out and shoot some footage over the weekend, I'll post it. I've been a big DVX user for years, but had to make an affordable cross to HD. Let you guys know when I got some stuff up.
