Capture Camera

I have been using a Sony HC21 as a slave and capture cam, but it is touch screen and the screen broke (the world's first flip out LCD to go 360 degree's continuously!!!).
Enough said... It will not playback because the playback controls were exclusively on the touch screen and they do not make a IR remote for this camera. I have no budget for a new cheap MiniDV camera. I just entered photography and I am now saving up for a better lens, so I cannot spend more than $120 right now on a new capture unit. Right now, I am able to borrow a friend's camera to import, but I need a new unit as I edit and sometimes capture mobilly.:violin:

Why is everyone so afraid to use the heads on the DVX?

Anyway, Andy, I'll bet you could find an as-is cam on eBay that'll serve your purposes. Or else someone will come through here.

Just to clear this issue I always had, there is no difference in quality if you shoot with the DVX and capture using another consumer dvcam right?

Why is everyone so afraid to use the heads on the DVX?.

1) It adds hours to the heads that can otherwise be avoided.

2) The camera's transport is not designed for the rigors* of capture/edit, especially all the shuttling back and forth.

*Once or twice won't kill the camera, but repeated use will. And folks buy cheap miniDV cameras as capture decks using the reasoning that a $300 camera may die after extended use in editing, but it's only $300 and is thus cheap to replace so there's no need to spend more money a real deck. My issue with this is that folks are accepting a wasteful mentality and are simply creating more needless landfill. And, after the camera dies, how many people actually take it to a proper electronics disposal/recycling center? [/rant]

I have a deck (Sony DSR-11) but I have used my DVX as a deck without incident. I agree that perhaps too much emphasis is placed on not using your camera as a deck. It does add hours, but the camera's a lot tougher than people think.

That being said, any cheap Mini DV camcorder for $150 will do for capture.
